What's the recommendation for a outdoor portrait custom curve, white wedding or provia?

Thanks 8

related, no one pays any attention to your post. I don't use custom curves, yet, so I can't help. Sorry.

Hi,

The Provia curve is best in harsh or contrasty lighting - and yeilds a pastel-ish tone, which is fairly pleasant...

...but I'd go for the "do anything" W-W curve unless the lighting is very, very contrasty.

Obvious point - why not try it out with both, beforehand - you just need to simulate the type of conditions and clothing (white?) with roses carnations or whatever... ...then try each curve, and the normal one (with +0.5 EC) - and compare the results.

My experience:

If using a curve, I'd load and use the W-W as it seems best at keeping highlights whilst give the mid-tones awelcome boost. If it then goes too contrasty for W-W, swap to normal with some +EC if required.

My 2p's worth.

... and it seems to be good for outdoor shots under harsh/bright sunlight or flash photography compare to the "normal" one in the camera by default. Color renditions and shadow details seem to be better with a more gentle... soft feel (sorry, I'm new to this and I'm not sure how to describe it probably).

Haven't tried the white wedding one yet...

Nice pictures. Which are taken with Davidmidtone, and which with
Midtone Enhance 3. And why did you use +.3 EV with the Midtone
Enhance 3?
Thanks
jk
the first ones w/ DavidMidtone and the last w/ Midtone Enhancer v3

for me w/o +0.3EV they continue a little dark at least on monitores where i see my pictures

I've found the link to the W-W curve, but if somebody could post links to the others I'd appreciate it (as I'm sure the other lurkers out there would).

Thanks,

Jeff

You may get blown highlights using +.3EV on a bright sunny day. I think the midtone enhance looked better. You might try white wedding which boosts midtones +.5 EV whereas the these are at a +.3EV.

Take a look at the photos here:
http://www.pbase.com/oldskoo1/d70_curve_tests

and see which one appeals to you the most and try it out. I was going to load the Provia curve, but found I liked the All in One better, but it is all matter of personal taste.
