D70 goes IR - add your Infrared pictures to this thread

A new one from today.

Couldn't get the white-balance to set on anything green, so I set it on the clear blue sky.

I also dropped my camera today. It fell about three feet onto some... ROCKS! It appears to have only suffered some small scratches on the bottom. I will now go out and spend big, big bucks on a tripod with a LOCKING quick-disconnect. Bogen/Manfrotto here I come.

Nice work man... very nice...

As for tripod... no better system than Gitzo / Arca Swiss quick release ballheads... with an L bracket from RRS man... if you have the bucks, it is a lifetime system... and nothing more solid and portable. I can't wait to have $900 burning a hole in my pocket so I can do this.

Cheers

And while very good, I have had my share of wind loading ruining good shots.

In this photo, even though the lens I used is the Sigma 28-300 which I have bashed numerous times for being the best and worst lens ever made... (best for the range and relative speed for size/price and bad for the total lack of sharpness and contrast...), the photo is marred further by the wind loading on the legs of this tripod. Not entirely the fault of any particular part of the system, but if you must know, this picture sealed the end of film for me.

What I like about the Gitzo I like (the 1228 or 1227) is the weight and strength. I have STOOD on one at B and H and astounded myself and all the onlookers.

The Arca Swiss just can't be beat. Also for same reason. This thing will NOT BUDGE for anything. and I have tried, trust me.

My Manfrotto Head and Tripod are great, awesome pieces. But, I want to move up a notch.

Your choices are incredible pieces as I have played with them myself. I love Manfrotto a lot and just want to move up a bit :-) This is just preference of course

As for the photos, hey man, anyone can take techniques and tips and hints and still not do much with them. While Dirk deserves his credit, so do you. You are turning out great IR pictures. I just hope the SUN COMES BACK in NYC LOL.

Your account of dropping your camera made me cringe. I dropped my first 35mm camera when I was a teenager...a Canon A1, I think it was. A plastic nut on the cheap tripod I was using broke and it fell from 5' or so onto concrete. It was trash after that and to this day I make a habit of wearing the neck strap while shooting from a tripod...probably not necessary anymore but...

As far as tripods and heads with a locking quick release plate, I've used the same setup for years now...a Manfrotto 3221 tripod (it may now have been renumbered to 055BWB...look for "tracker tripod") and the 3265 head with a quick release grip and quick release plate. If you have more than one camera body, simply buy a plate for each of them.

Hope this helps...thanks again for that great IR shot, it's inspiring!

Again, thanks for the kind words and advice.

I think I'll stick with the Manfrotto. The Gitzo is about 3X what I'm willing to pay right now. I'm seconds away from ordering 3011 and one of the ball heads. Just gotta decise which head.

Went to a local camera store today (Belfords) and they wanted $400.00+ for the 3011 w/322RC ball head. I can get the same thing at BH Photo for half that. WHAT are they thinking!

Thank you for your help.

I've sent an email to the yafro-Support and asked them to remove the pictures.

Pardon my rant but I just don't get it...

Sure, these are great shots but for someone to just assume that he
can use them as he wishes without the permission of the original
artist is just wrong. What's worse is that he doesn't even try to
give nzphoto credit but displays these shots as though they are his
own work! Unbelievable...

This is a perfect IR picuture! Great work.
Thanks for sharing.

They will get some schmuck to actually pay that. They probably don't even know what The Internet is :-)

Good luck with your decision, as there are as many choices in support as there are in lenses and accessories LOL
