Hmm...looks like I'm the early one today. Here are a couple taken from the parking lot of the diner where I had a morning coffee.

Bench & Fence
Minolta A2 1/100s f/6.3 at 18.9mm iso64

Trees & Bricks2
Minolta A2 1/200s f/7.1 at 45.5mm iso64

What did you shoot today?

Today I also shot this preliminary composition of a nearby barn that I've driven by thousands of times in the car but noticed its photographic potential for the first time recently while out on the bicycle. It's amazing how much more one sees from a bicycle seat than from the driver's seat.

Anyway, the lighting wasn't what I want so I took some preliminary shots to see how the basic composition looked and will go back when the light is more dramatic.

Silver Spring Barn
Minolta A2 1/800s f/5.0 at 27.5mm iso64

And that's it for me for today.

So true. Your speed of travel on a bike is perfect, significantly faster than walking so you cover plenty of ground, and significantly slower than driving so you have time to look around and really see things.

Very nice pics Gordon, as usual.
I've tried to catch the serene mood of new season's approaching.
And what a better time to shoot than in the night!

Now, who says that Minolta cams are noisy?
:)

A few pics taken this evening at a local pond. I know they need some touch up work, but for some reason I like the way they are.

Gordon, I got out in the 4X4 and went up in the Hualapai Mountains today. I was exploring some old turn of the century mining sites and shot a few pictures.
Some new little pine cones. About 1 1/4 inches long.

A small cactus blossom.

The web of a spider that lives in an underground burrow.

Some wild Hollyhocks blooming at a long abandoned mine.

And last, but not least. My silly dog "Jessie" swimming in the the cows water trough.

It was a big day for both us. Dave

You guys make it so hard to try and 'Practice Mutha Practice' - where do you find the time?. So some more backyard stuff in the middle of the night under fluoro lights (and some PP):

Hehe! ;-) Working from home has its advantages, especially if one like myself seldom sleeps more than a few hours at a time.

Beautiful flower, Ray. What kind of background is that?

Thanks - bit of a rough job of PS though. The background is actually part brown timber table and part reddish/brown brick wall. I isolated the flower (zygocactus) using magnetic lasso, selected inverse, then a major gaussian blur and finally converted the background to B&W. My PS technique still needs a lot of work, hence the not so great transition between the flower and background - more Practice Mutha Practice.

Interestingly, many have commented on the focussing capability of the A2. In this shot and a few others I took tonight, I had to release and re-press (half-press) the shutter a few times before the focus locked on (lighting wasn't the best - but the exposure came out great). Some get overly worked up by this, but I consider it just one of those things that you live with. I don't expect perfection out of these complex electronic devices, but I've never to date got a shot that's out of focus, unless 'I've' done something wrong.

Cheers

Ray
