What is your most deceptive photo? (img)

Nice trick with the car hood. I tried this once myself and fooled some people.

Do you have any photos, that at first glance, are not what they
appear to be? The lighting can cause it, or shadows, or just
shooting at unusual angles. Here one I shot a long time ago, that
has fooled a few people, but not everybody :) See how long it
takes you to figure out if it is what it appears to be. Please post
any shots you might have that are a little deceptive. Pauls thread
that is running right now over scale, ties into this, because
without a reference, we can be fooled into thinking something is
smaller or larger than it really is, which is another deceptive
form of photo. I have a great one of these I will post in a while
here. Be sure to leave your guesses in your replies message body,
and not the header, for obvious reasons. Thanks for playing, and I
hope we get some good ones posted!

Well, that is deceptive alright. It almost looks like there is some
kind of insect involved, maybe a caterpillar? Am I off by a mile? :)
hehe caught another one.. scratch your right ear with your right shoulder and let me know what you see =)

I feel it's quite deceiving up to a point. Took in Rome 5 years ago using 1.3M Oly D-340R. That's "Fontana di Trevi" plaza that was featured in Dolce Vita movie.

I'm still not sure what I am looking at. Seems to be a lot of statues. What should I look for?

Some statues in background are the real ones - 150% human size put there some few hundred years ago. Most statues on the foreground are actually miniature souvenir replicas sold from the stands. Between front and back view planes lies the whole plaza with the pool and the fountain but I specifically selected point of view that screwed perspective. Oly's fixed focus lens and unlimited DOF only added to the effect. Try this with DSLR! :)

You can see that these plastic replicas are much lighter in color than stone originals. I could've easily made them same color and texture in PS for even more confusion.

He was jumping off a two foot embankment the tide had made along the beaches edge. I had to lay on my back and with a one, two, three he jumped off and over my head. The hard part here is worry of any sand he might kick off onto the camera. I had to shoot at an angle not directly under him. My camera was wrapped in plastic and I used the uv filter as protection for the lens. Unfortunately I live on the east coast of florida and the shoot was in the afternoon. I had no way of shooting him with the sun to my back and on him. If I kicked up the ISO he was over exposed and then his skintone made the shadow even darker. Needless to say I wasn't pleased with the image just the result of him in the air. The model works for Whilhimina NYC and iis becoming increasingly well known ( Nike, Polo Sport, International Male, etc.. I wanted something unique for myself but this try just didn't cut the mustard. Some of our other images were great though.
So did the image fool ya?

If it don't fit, don't force it. Just relax and let it go.

A caterpillar? LOL

Mike

Rotate the photo 90 degrees CCW, it is a photo of a row of trees with autum colors that are reflected in the water. The trees are about the same size in the reflection on the water as they are tall on the land.

Okay, I deserved to be horse whipped for not getting it :) I see now, after rotating it. Thanks, Mike....

Ok, I'm in...

(Excuse the watermark.)

This is a postcard I did for my inlaws for the holidays this year.

Left side of image is water, right side is the sky and centre is the tree line and it's reflection... on a misty early morning on the lake.. =)

Cheers!
