Birds

Carlos,

I'm beginning to get fascinated with birds and I expect that I'll be doing some research in the very near future. Looking forward to seeing your shots.

Hey Mark,

My 717 didn't have the reach i needed for those shots so I used my D100 and Nikon's 80-400 (120-600MM) VR lens.

Hi all,

Just a few bird shots from my Florida trip. I'm going to have to
get a book on birds so I can start IDing these guys.

this guy was just sitting on the rock for more than 10 minutes with
his wings spread (drying them?)
This is the Ahinga, or"Snake Bird". Very abundent in my neck of the woods, and can always be seen on a rock or tree branch drying themselfs with there wings spread.

This was a lucky shot. I never thought i would get a decent shot of
one so little in flight

rock sitting seems to the thing to do

this one was just hopping around the rocks along the shore

after getting soaked he dried off in a tree

I just went to look for specs for this lens. It seems to be an awesomme piece of equipment and relatively small for it's performance.
How effective is is the Vibration Reduction feature?
Moti,

Thanks for the complements, they mean a lot coming from such a godd
photographer. So far I am very impressed with the 80-400VR lens.
I'm amazed at how well my handheld shots are coming out.

Hi Moti,

I had my doubts about VR but no more. The VR absolutely works. All of these shots were handheld at 400mm and at speeds of around 1/250. I have gotten good shots handheld at 400mm with a shutter speed of 1/60.
With my 24-120 VR lens I've gone as slow as 1/6 handheld with good results.
