I dropped my 300D into Canon's service centre in Melbourne to see if they can do anything to reduce its propensity to switch into servo AF.

In discussing whether I should leave my 75 - 300 IS lens with them, I explained that it had been bought for me in New York and therefore I assumed it wouldn't be covered by warranty in Aus.

The person who was helping me said Canon Australia now honours warranties on all Canon lenses bought anywhere in the world (not just L models). I didn't think to ask whether this applies to camera bodies as well.

I have seen a number of posts from Aussies on this forum regarding importing lenses from the US and there has been a bit of discussion of whether they should pay extra for a third party warranty.

Looks like it's not necessary and we can buy online from Adorama/B&H etc and still get local warranty coverage - just keep your warranty card and receipt.

Hi there.......

Good to know this info.

Not exactly re your topic, but seeing as your from Melbourne also, I was wondering what the guys were like at the service centre in Melbourne.

My view finder etc need cleaning and I was a bit nervous to do so first time round so asked the store I asked the camera from to send to cannon for me. That was 4 weeks ago now. Because it wasn't a warranty "job" they sent a quote back, but the store didn't receive the quote until last late last week after I asked them to chase it up! Cannon now say it will take 10-15 days and $220.00 to fix (they said they will need to put in a new viewfinder?? I thought it was just a dust problem!). Do think this is right??!! Should I give the Cannon service centre here a call direct to see if I can get it back sooner? I wanted it this weekend to photograph a concert indoors with my new Tamron!! Really missing my camera!!

Enjoy all the great pics posted from everyone!

Regards,
Wendy

Wendy....why it isn't a warranty job?

If it's dust oke, you can clean it yourself, ...but if it is to change parts (f.i. a new viewfinder) than you can claim it as a warrty case!
That's logical.

Succes...

Thanks..I'll ask them why because I didn't think there was anything physically wrong with the view finder, just lots ( there was lots) of it!

Hello Wendy

They have quite a substantial customer service centre - they were busy when I was there, but the people at the counter were certainly pleasant enough.

Kimberley Dixon is the Customer Care supervisor. I have found her helpful, so you might want to try ringing her. Perhaps I shouln't post her direct phone number - email me on [email protected] if you want to contact her.

Good Luck
