I dropped my 300D into Canon's service centre in Melbourne to see if they can do anything to reduce its propensity to switch into servo AF.
In discussing whether I should leave my 75 - 300 IS lens with them, I explained that it had been bought for me in New York and therefore I assumed it wouldn't be covered by warranty in Aus.
The person who was helping me said Canon Australia now honours warranties on all Canon lenses bought anywhere in the world (not just L models). I didn't think to ask whether this applies to camera bodies as well.
I have seen a number of posts from Aussies on this forum regarding importing lenses from the US and there has been a bit of discussion of whether they should pay extra for a third party warranty.
Looks like it's not necessary and we can buy online from Adorama/B&H etc and still get local warranty coverage - just keep your warranty card and receipt.
