Fuji S602 + B-300 @ 357mm, ISO 160, 1/500, f 8.0

I was strolling on the beach and taking photos of the gulls and my son when this one lined up so nicely with the pear and beach. The late day sun through the fog created a blue background, which I warmed up with a warming filter in PhotoShop.

Comments and suggestions welcome.

Nice shot Morris. I take it that winter has loosened its grip and it’s nice to be outside again there. I just talked to someone that came back from Connecticut that reporeted that the Dogwoods are in full splendor right about now.

BTW, that wodden structure is a "Pier", pear is actually a fruit... ;

Cheers,

Hi Morris,

Nice mood and viewpoint. Did you experiment on a tad darker or lighter shade and see what gives the best mood? The foreground stone edges looked like had been masked out but could just be the transition line between the darker side and the lighter side of the image. Good job.

Great Shot Morris.

Good timing. I also think the pier with the people on it makes it more interesting to a shot that already has so many good things going for it.

I really like the shot, but the sharpening haloes really distract me. If you have control over the sharpening (as opposed to the camera doing all the sharpening for you) and use Photoshop, check out Russell Brown's Lighten/Darken USM technique. It's quite amazing. There's a tutorial on Brown's site and I have a bit of writeup on it here:

Also Petteri's site is always useful:

Hi, morris.

It's quite a nice image, particularly after warming it up in PS. I do wonder a little bit though about your choice of focus point leaving the the nearer gull out of focus. It's not that this doesn't work for me, but I think I would've prefered focus on the nearer gull in this instance.

BTW, have you also tried applying a cooling filter effect instead?

Kind regards,

Man

Thank you Gil,

Yes I played around and all components of this photo are from the original image. I did not do any masking to process this photo.

im not an artist, i just take pictures

I very much like the shot, but would prefer if the gull and the pier had been masked prior to applying the warming filter... my 2 cents only.
Thanks.
