I took these shots at The National Date Festival,Indio(16 miles east of Palm Springs),CA. I thought the subjects were very interesting, but I had two major problems. They had sevaral different races, but in each race they ran the short track once. If you miss the shot, that's it. Because of that, there were many would've's and could've's. The background of the other side of the track is just ugly. I could've cropped it,but the file size would've been smaller.

Hide Takahash,

Not your typical rodeo, eh? I think the gladiator photo is the best. Too bad the driver isn't Charlton Heston!

Great pictures! These people really know how to have fun.

I love the one with them riding bareback!

Yep, a modern day gladiator. Charlton Heston has too much pride to be seen with the ostrich and that he is too old for this! :)

When i was a kid (long ago) we always went to a local county fair to see the ostriches race a harness horse. They both had the little carts hooked up and the ostriches always won. They are fast and the horses were probably freaked by them. Maybe Charlton should have used ostriches, LOL

I was thinking while I was watching these shows that what the Romans would have thought about the idea of using the ostriches. :)
