BF on the "Steve-Digicams" Samples

... it was the FM with 1,4/50 mm and it costed a young boy from eastern Europe like me a fortune. I really don't remember that I ever had a bad focused picture with it. (My son bought the FM3 mm recently, having no idea that I owned it once!). There is a strong respect in my family for Nikon, believe it or not.

The d70 is a brand new cam manufactured in the brand new plant but apparently in the big panicy because there might be brand new 8mp Canon DSLRs right beyond the corner. And this looks to be a "make it or break it" deal for Nikon.

I understand that there might be some initial problems. But Nikon should try something else than just denying them.

I am really quite satisfied with my cam, unfortunatelly, I have reccomanded it to some friends who are now complaining the things you saw on the Steve's website. It is very humiliating talking with camera vendors about back focus issues, isn't it?

This is motion blur IMHO.

The aperture was f/4.5 here and the subject distance was approximately 2 meters. Then everything was sharp between 1.93m and 2.07m so that the eyes had no optical reason to be soft even if the subject were focused on the neck.

In fact the shutter speed (1/60s) was too slow for the focal length (70mm = 105mm equiv. 24x36). In S mode the speed could have been set to 1/500s instead.
Best,
LCT
Look on the lady's neck!

Are the Nikon guys really that dumb for not being able to fix QC?!?

So the 300D had the same problem.. If you want real bad.. Try using my Minolta Dimage S404.. Read phils review on it.. The camera would give the Green in focus lock but the shot on the Lcd was way out of Focus.. Now you can see why another reason I want to get rid of this camera..

Nikon D70 Soon to be

Unless you take the same photo, at the same time, in the same place, you can't possibly say that. Similar conditions maybe. The same, no.

Prietenul meu.
on my Canon 300d ... and 17 years old EOS 650 ?

A 17 years old cam, buddy boy!

P.s. Toate bune, dragalasa mea!

Hi George,
The face moves more than the neck sometimes.
Suffice to smile like this charming lady :-)
Best,
LCT

What average shutter speed has a typical flash shot:

a. 1/5000 s
b. 1/1000s
c. 1/15000s

Pal, this IS a flash shot. And an pattern of bad focusing as well. Send Steve an email and clear this up whith him if you don't believe your eyes & mind.

You're quite right, I could never make money out of photography. But I've no regrets with the D70 - perfect focus & perfect images. Enjoy your 300D. Both excellent cameras.

I have the d70 myself too and it works GREAT - i do like it and even forgive it some bad boy's features like moiré on the JPEGs. I must also tell that I didn't buy the kit lens. It is a cam with great feature set AND features - supposed it was assembled well. Some people point the same troubles all the time which makes me curious...

Wait and see: somebody might get fired right now somewhere there in Thailand and you'll never ever hear of some trolls like me or Steve Digicam ;))

Denying a problem is just the first step on solving it!

Why don't YOU send him an email and ask him why such a respected reviewer missed the backfocus in his own samples. Or if he didn't miss it, why did he not think it was a big deal?

1. Guys having correctly assembled units;
2. Guys having badly assembled units wit resulting BF;

3. Guys like you, who somehow don't know what do do with this cam, don't know how it work etc. But by simple possesion of it, they find themselves obliged to take some snappshots or take a part in some camera fora...

I personally consider the third category most progressive, if not most useful too.

Kindest regards,

Dubya

P.s. Try to contact Steve yourself. You wouldn't believe how very responsive this guy is!

Normally I don't flame people, but you're an ass. Go troll somewhere else, no one wants to listen to your useless drivel here.

Steve makes with his d70 only two portraits on his samples site, both of them being pretty blurry (cr@ppy would match better, what?) and he highly recommends it.

This is not bulldozing and Steve is definitely no ass. People belitteling and confusing other people are no asses too.

Don't like it, don't bump it mman.

Red, don't forget to push your shift where your mouth ends.

Kindest regards,

George
