hello everybody:

thanx for the kind comments.

this was tuff subject to photography. firstly: i didn't use tripod. there was so many police officers so i was afraid that they can have some objections seeing guy with tripod. secondly there wasn't really any good plave to shot it because ship's size and docking location. you can see "destructive" ramps and some pier buildings. i have to check it: i may will be able to go there one more time tonight and shot again. hawever i doubt because basing on my earlier observations this kind of ships are here not longer than several hours and then, after taking new people on board, leave for the next trip.

jim r: this is 50th street pier in nyc.

jim n'az: hey, glad to hear from you and i'm very happy that you're envying me of having chance to make this kind of picture. until now it was going other way: i was envying you of these breath taking az views. it will be a little hard to see qm2 in phoenix huh? LOL.

mike: i would love to shot it different location than this one. i also don't know what kind of pictures are better: day or night. i rather think that night coz as you can see, ship is very nicely illuminated. but i'm very curious what you'll be able to get shooting in uk.
i hope you'll post some pics.

feri: believe mi or not. i was trying to make panorama of qm2. but because i had not tripod, i was shoting from some pal or pipe which i found in neighbourhood. and obviously i've screwed it out.

but, how i said above, i would love to go there one more time and shoot again. now i know that i'm going to nyc 2 hours from now. but i have to forget about pics at daylight. there will be no space to park my car. and parking car anywhere is extremely expensive: you'll get 115 bucks ticket plus you'll be towed right away. ant this is next 250 bucks. so these two things are chilling me nicely down.

best regards to all of you.

Hi all,

Nice shots - she is very difficult to photo being so huge. She was one of my first A1 subjects, and thankfully I had a tripod with me when we saw her (Although I didn't turn the AS off so gave a little blur).

I'll try to remember to put some pics of her on-line tonight when I get home, but in case I forget and some of you want to take some nice pics when she comes back to Southampton (UK). We found an excellent spot in Hythe on the other side of the of the water from where she docks in Southampton. It's in a small marina which has water front access and ample parking ;-). The link below is to multimap and shows the way in - zoom out for location. Follow 'Shamrock Way all the way up to the water front and hopefully you should get a great view - Best at night as very pretty when all lit up from a distance. Its far enough away to full length port side shot with the A1, but close enough to zoom in to 1/4 length.

For those interested in getting some pics when she returns - Hope this is of help.

Cool :) Tried to get to see it when it first came to Southampton, but parking in Hythe was a joke! Might just try and take some pics from the pier in the city centre. Of course for the best view just hop on the Isle of Wight ferry!! ;-)

Really good idea - shame its so stupidly expensive... ;-)

Nice photos. What camera?

I saw a great shot in the newspaper today. Probaly an AP photo so it could also be in many papers. It was a long telephoto shot down the length of 42nd Street with the bow of the Queeen Mary looming large in the background as it sailed up the Hudson river. Very impressive.
