I'm switching as well

Hi All

I'm a newbie who has just switched from KMart tissues to Canon. I did think of Hakuba, but thought if I wanted to go Pro, I'd get laughed at using anything other than those big white wipes!

Anyhoo, my real point in posting is that I have recently cleaned the glass of a few people in my area and they all told me I could go pro if I wanted to, so I decided to start charging for my services. Problem is, I don't know what to charge. Any ideas?

Cheers All

Canon tissues are also known to exhibit lower noise. I have not
proved this myself, but I suppose this is when you wipe at high
speed when cleaning in low light, such as indoors, in churches or
hockey venues. I can appreciate low noise in churches and hockey
rinks, so this is a good point.

but what clinches it for me is the greater number of USM (universal
smudge mop) models in the Canon tissue line vs. AFS (advanced filth
scraper) models in Hakuba's line up. I want prime AFS tissues
below 300mm, and Hakuba does not make these, so I'm off to Canon
after using Hakuba for 20+ years.
My Hakuba came in, and after much mental anguish, I had the shop use
my deposit towards a Canon Lens Cleaner. The size was a factor, but
for me, the biggest factor was the crop or FOV. With the Hakuba at
1.5x, the
17-55 lens would be completely cleaned at the widest angle. Since I
shoot a lot of wide angle shots, I would need either the 12-24
Cleaner or
the Delta 15-30 Cleaner to get me down to super wide angle, with
the 12-24 at 18 Cleaner equal. However, with the Canon Cleaner and
its 1.3x factor, the Canon 16-35 is completely covered by super
wideangle Cleaner.

So basically I save the cost of a 12-24 Cleaner, or 1000 dollars by
going with the Canon, primarily due to the 1.3 size factor.
With either camera I'd have a 24-70 Cleaner, the extra size on the
17-55 is moot. Now with only a 500 dollar difference, between the
cleaners, the 8 extra fibres were worth it for me. And I'll have
more room to clean. However, I loved the way the Hakuba handled, even
it were only for an hour in my hands.

Hookt on Fonix rilly wurkt fer mee!!

If I see you at a wedding can I follow you around to learn how to clean lenses?

I know I am not good enough to call myself a pro.I am very impressed that you have the good judgement and skill to immediately turn pro.

My question: At the next wedding you shoot for pay can I follow you with my really big camera and lens and learn how you do it and maybe I can step in front of you to help clean lenses. You won't mind, right?

This above all, to thine own self be true and it follows as the night the day, thou canst not then be flalse to any Hakuba.

Believe me there is wisdom in this.

I got my order of Hakuba Tissue and it has a color gradient. It green on the left and magenta on the right. I am sending it in for service. Does anyone have experience with Hakuba warranty service?

Hello,

Yes!.. but what about the Front wipe issue thats tearing this Forum apart, and also the newer but just as serious Back wipe issues...can anyone help ?

i have Hakuba on order as well and have paid a deposit, but im thinking of cancelling changeing over to Canon.

Front wipe or Back wipe with no problems reported, they seem to make a quality tissue with no wipe problems that i know of, even if i have to wait until Sept 04 delevery like everyone else....

regards Michael Thompson...
Hi everyone, I just wanted to say that I will be selling all of my
Hakuba lens cleaning tissues and liquid because I have decided to
go with Canon's lens tissue and liquid. I feel that I couldn't keep
using the Hakubas because of lower alcohol percentage. I really
feel like they are losing the battle and haven't really come out
with a good enough tissue to keep me buying their brand. I know
Hakuba makes great products but I feel like Canons' tissue will
keep my glass sparkling so my images will be really sharp. I also
know that Canon's tissue and liquid isn't out yet but I've decided
to wait in line for them... hopefully I will receive mine at the
end of summer. Furthurmore, according to the specs, the Canon
tissue is slightly larger and I will get more cleaning for my money
(When is Hakuba going to make an A4 tissue? I've waited long
enough.) This was a really hard decision but I feel that this will
make me a better photographer in the end.

Canon 1D at work & 1Ds when its free !
Canon 10D for myself and fun!
Eos 1v Film SLR now covered in dust, sad but true.....

Quit measurebating and put away those tissues!

You all ought to go take a bunch of pictures instead...If you don't, you wont have a soul - Ken Rockwell says so, so it's gotta be true.

I sent in a sample of the dust collected with their tissue in a small ziplock bag and they sent me this nasty terse little note that said "what the hell is this?".

These guys are supposed to be pros? They can't even recognize lens dust when they see it! Stick with Habuka.

You want to try the Foveon tissues - not only do they clean three colours of dust but they have a higher resolution cleaning at single dust particle level. They also clean to three times the depth of the bayer pattern Canon tissues. Unfortunately they arre beset by long exposure problems - if you clean for more than about 20 seconds your lens turns blue.

but this actually made me laugh out loud...

Can you say F@ Kin funny on here?
But Canon has requested that I don't show them yet. I will show
them when everyone else has shown theirs. In the meantime, you'll
just have to trust me that I have them and that its the best lens
cleaning system out there!! Please don't ask any questions because
I 'm not at liberty to divulge any information.

One of my fellow Canonians posted a link over in the Canon 1D section to this thread. I must say, it's one of the best I've ever seen. You -- all of you -- have perfectly captured the day-to-day hysteria that's routine on our side of the fence. And, I'm afraid it's only going to get worse as the 1DII hits the streets.

Anyway, well done. It's an honor to "compete" with you.

You can always depend on Ugly Americans to recommend wasting tissue even in the face of incredible shortages and the wanton desecration of the environment. Just calculate how much tissue is used by all the camera lenses being cleaned by the materialistic, PhotoCapitalists. How many trees are destroyed? The government has kept secret the dark truth of pollution and endangered species dislocation and, indeed, annihilation from processing raw pulp. The result might surprise you! Nader knows the truth behind this cover up.

Until an environmentally friendly, totally recyclable cleaning method can be found I, for one, WILL NOT CLEAN!
