Ok Pro's - how would you crop this?

I agree with the other poster who suggested a slight clockwise
rotation to level the back of the bench with the frame. I didn't
do this in my crops, but I think it would be a good idea.

for sure - a goo crop (or a bad one...) can make or break a picture... There's an art and a science to it indeed!!!

Roman - I really like the space you've left him - much better than my attempts. I very-much like your D70 work thus far by the way!!!

first get your horizon straight with the automatic measure tool



second draw the line with this tool to define your horizon



choose rotate canvas choose arbirary and it fills in the value measured



choose ok



make your crop with the selection tool (or croppingtool but is less flexible)

try avoiding distracting objects in this case the sides and the text on his shirt and you would usualy make the object off center [important!]



choose crop



result !!



todo:
basic editing etc etc usm/levels/neatimage ;)

Wendy, I like this actually - it makes the shot a bit more spontaneous I think. "Close cropper" Hmmm... sounds like a Seinfeld episode ;)

"Yeah.. I like her, but she's a close cropper..."

Thanks for the tutorial showing the measure tool. It's a lot easier than the way I've been doing it. Also, nice crop.

Of the crops I've seen, this one actually seems to be the direction I was heading. I like the amount of room you've left him to look into, yet you've kept it vertical. The slight cropping of the head doesn't bother me in the least - adds a spontaneous touch.

Thanks very much for making the effort - the wifey will adore it!!!
