Been debating whether to purchase the FX5 but have not found too much talk on this camera. Any users out there other than the previous posts? Looks like a great carry about cam. I own the Digilux 2 now and need a toss a bout!
Thanks,
Jim

Where do you buy them? I haven't seen any advertised. One user, Jack Scholl, has one, has posted here, seems to be happy he has it. One other guy too. Very rare camera at this point. Looks like a good one, though.

Hi John,

There are plenty of dealers out there...Circuit city (web only) plus many others at varying prices. $339.00 is the lowest I've seen. Most at 399.00.

Thanks
Jim

show 7 dealers between them, I've heard of 3 of them and of those Circut City is the only Honest one. If you'd searche a couple of weeks ago you've got none. This is why almost noone has one yet. I think these are great little cameras, if I wanted a pocket cam I'd buy one

Do a Google.com search and you'll find out why. I searched for "Panasonic FX5" to see what this camera looked like, and I've never seen so many foreign language characters in my search results! I don't think this camera is available in any English speaking countries!

Adder says that Circuit City carries them. How does the public find out about Panasonic cameras with no central promotion? I just don't understand the system, I guess. Here's the website for Circuit City, at $399: http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.jsp?c=1&b=g&u=c&oid=89285&catoid=-8025#specs

I agree. It's interesting that they seem to rely on word of mouth, but word of mouth these days means the internet. If the FX5 has hit USA stores, it's pretty bad that the dominate search engines on the internet aren't showing them as being there. Maybe Panasonic shouldn't rely on word of mouth.

Well, Canon and Olympus don't rely on "word of mouth," and they sell a helluva lot more cameras than Panasonic does, you can bet on that! Odd thing about the "Circuit City" thing was, following Adder's cue, I went to the Circuit City main site and put "DMC-FX5" in the search window; it replied "Your search for 'DMC-FX5' revealed 0 names." So I went to Price Grabber, looked up the same phrase, and it returned Circuit City as one of three vendors (CC was the cheapest price, at $399). I clicked on the link, and there I was on an FX5 page within the Circuit City site. Go figure?

Jim,

We have had a FX5 for a little while now and are thoroughly enjoying it. John Reed had asked a while ago if my wife liked it. Seems as though I'm having trouble getting to use it. It is now "hers".

Having a IS camera this small is really neat. All "quick shots" can now be very "informally" taken - no worry about sharpness etc. And it still does low light extremely well without flash-especially at 35mm and f2.8.

Not many "tiny" cams that can do 1/8 sec snapshots!

And for those who already have a FZ1/2/10, sharing menus, controls etc sure makes life easier.

You're right, Jack. Stabilizers work well at wideangle, low light conditions; the FX5 uniquely offers that in a pocketable camera. Life's everlasting puzzle here is, why doesn't Panasonic PUSH it? You have to look in the fine print to even KNOW about the O.I.S. - Why isn't it bannered somewhere? Instead, the camera is just sort of sold as a pricy 4MP pocket-size camera in a market where there are plenty of other small cameras for the choosing. Why doesn't Panasonic establish the differentiation? Who does the "thinking" for their marketing of cameras? What is wrong with this picture? Did I mention I was frustrated? YES!

bobky,

Just posted some representative pics on the FX5 section of my pbase site. All straight out of the camera. Hope that helps.

Take care,

I ran across the same thing on several sites when I watching the prices on the FZ10. I got a link from one of the price compare sites but couldn't get there from the sites main page. Made me write off the site, as I don't trust a store that can't/doen't keep it's site up straight.

I also found the same thing when looking for FZ1 and FZ10 prices. Some pricing sites would say that Circuit City offered the FZ1 or FZ10, but when I would click on the "Check Inventory" or "Buy Now" link to make sure they had it and at what price, it said that it couldn't find this item and suggested I select another item to buy. Haha.

You know, I have to say though -- I haven't seen ANY digital camera adds, commercials, etc., except that rather stupid and misleading Minolta Z1 commercial (where the camera flies through the air to show off its aerodynamics -- why? -- and they brag about it having a 40x zoom when it only had a 10x zoom). Admittedly, I don't have a subscription to Photography Magazine or anything of the sort, but when it comes to advertising to John Q. Public, I don't think any manufacturer is really doing much of that (other than buying store shelf space).

Thanks, Jack! A nice group of photos. Looks like Panasonic has the exposure matrix pretty well figured out. Can you adjust exposure bias on the FX5 like you can with FZ1 or FZ10?
