For those who wish to use the CANON RAW import in PHOTOSHOP or
THUMBSPLUS, I can now tell how to get it to find your RAW images
on a HD other other extra-camera site.

1. BOTH the CRW and THM files must be present
2. They must have the SAME 8.3 name setup, e.g., 100_0001.crw and 100_0001.thm.
3. The PREFIX must be the same for all files in a folder. (Why I cannot say;-)

For an application that is meant to be used beyond WIN3.XX, this is an odd
requirement, yes?

I would appreciate experimentation and input from others as well;-)

Also, beyond the two apps listed, do any other apps allow one to access the
TWAIN driver for CANON?

Howey,

Shoot & Share does it too (imports as TIFF and then you can save as wahatever you want).
PaintShop Pro does it too.

How do you download the THM file from the camera onto the harddisk without a card reader? Is there a way to use zoombrowser or some other software to copy both the raw and thm files onto a hard disk?
thanks

I am using SuperJPG and Photoshop 6. I cannot download any images from the camera directly into PS, raw or jpg. I can only download jpg images from the camera into SuperJPG. Apparently I don't have the proper twain files in the proper directory or directories. I don't even know what to look for. I downloaded the updated Canon twain files and stuck them in a separate directory. Any suggestions as to how to get in the right track?

Thanks.

I've always had PSPro on the computer for years (now on ver7) and no way can I get it to accept RAW files - it just states that the extension for the file is not accepted - nor of course is it in the 'Associations' list. How then do you get them into PSPro ??

Where did you get the Canon downloaded Twain files from. Can you quote the site address. My G1 is only a couple of weeks old and officially on 'return' basis (although I think that's highly doubtful) but I haven't for this reason yet opened up the Manual or the software. I suppose they're on a CD there but if there's an update then that would be better anyway , if I knew where to go for it. Thanks for any info.

Thanks for quick reply. Just been doing a search meanwhile and see that they're actually available from this very site of Phils (!) so I'm in the process of loading the 2.92 Meg .exe file right now.

Now, where do I put it when it all arrives ??? Does running the .exe do what is necessary. I'd like it first in PSPro for trial - but where ??

Hope I understand your question correctly.

I'll try an answer:

Getting the twain driver to work, has nothing to do with file extensions.

Almost any paint/design/photo program will support the import of files using the twain driver. In PaintshopPro this goes via File ~ Import ~ Twain.

You'll get a choice of Acquire and Configure. In Configure you should see your Canon along with all other correctly installed twain driver (camera's webcams, scanners). Via Acquire you start the selected twain driver with (in case of the Canon G1) the options to acquire from camera or hard disk. When you select a raw file, you right click and choose Set RAW Param. This will allow you to set the parameters and convert/save it to another format (JPG in PPRO, TIF in Shoot & Share).
