Hello, and welcome! My name is Matthew Cromer and I will be hosting your mini challenge during this next week or so. This week's challenge is "All things made new", or in plainer words "The Spirit of Spring". Here's your chance to photograph things that are young, fresh, new, or exhibiting the spirit of young, fresh and new in an older package. Budding trees, young love, a new baby, or anything else that YOU think meets the challenge is fair game.

The original Mini Challenge was meant to be very informal and encourage participation by having few rules:

1- The winner of a mini challenge chooses the next challenge and selects the winner, who takes the baton and carries on with it.

2- Please try to limit yourself to 3 pictures or less.

3- Photos may be shot with any camera and may be taken at any time.

WHAT TO DO: Post your images directly to this thread, but please resize your images to be web friendly or use the “semicolon-at-the-end-of-the-image-URL” trick to allow non-embedded images. This is to make it easier on our dialup users.

CONTEST DURATION: Mini Challenge #25 will run for approximately 1 week.

Sweet topic Matthew!
Here's my first entry:

-Sleeping beauty basking in the last rays of sun-

Taken with a D30 105mm f6.3 1/100 ISO 200 WB tweaked in post to approx 5600 K (don't know the exact temp anymore)

Good luck to everyone, I've got a very nice idea for my 2nd entry :D maybe I can grab a shot this afternoon!

How ever did you get to take this one?? It's very nice! Have you tried adding just a tad of saturation? That may improve the photo even more I think (not sure though :D)
Good luck in the challenge!

new buds and new blossoms (dslr)

dawn of a new day in manhattan (sony 828)

I took that in St. Augustine at the Alligator Farm. There is a boardwalk thru some mangroves with gators in the water below and a ton of birds nesting above. Here is a link to some more shots there, they are the ones labeled July10XXXX with the X's denoting the shot number:

Thanks for letting me post here. Glad we all can compare photos and forget about the gear.

I have to work on my PS skills, but may redo that one for better contrast and saturation. Thanks for the tip, appreciate it.
