How many shots can I expect in a 300D's lifespan?

Hi all.

Please tell me that I worry too much -- but I bought my drebel back in February and have logged about 7,000 pics on it so far (I shoot a lot of candids at events... a LOT).

With all the (probably overexaggerated) news about 300D failures, I was wondering how many shots I can expect out of this lovely little piece of kit. I do have a 3-year warranty so I'm not terribly worried, but I'm concerned about longevity nonetheless.

Thanks much!

There's no telling. The shutter seems to be failing for some, other problems seem to creep up too. Cross your fingers!

Eeeyagh, does that mean I'm 1/3rd of the way to camera death already? Will Canon replace it if it dies before the warranty is up?

I wonder how the higher-end Canons fare. This cannot be good for people who take +100 shots a day.

If you take 100+ shots per day, every day, treat yourself to a 10D.

While being digital makes it much easier and more feasible to keep shooting, it's still a Rebel.

And 20,000 pictures for $1000? No way could that be matched in film.

The 300D is insured for 3 years (for accidental breakage, too!) so maybe I'll upgrade to the top-of-the-line camera in 2007 (lord knows what it'll be...)

Craig,

You make an interesting point. Even 7000 shots here in the UK will cost about £777 if we use 36 exposure film at about £4 each. Thats film only. Developing those will cost maybe another £972 [mid-range processing].

Camera batts too - how long does a 300d batt survive?

Woodie.

The canon guy thid not say the shutter will death after 20.000 pictures but the change is bigger then.

Its suposed to work atleast for 20.000 pictures.
In a normal way thads alot more then 20.000 pictures as canon say.
I have seen the canon technical sheet its say shutter tested and veryfied
to last atleast 20.000 pictures.
The flash onboard is tested and veryfeid to 10.000 flashes.
The Cmos censor is tested and veryfeid to 100.000 charges.

Its always possible one camera will be death before.but as far hi know not anny unit is on repair in belgium for shutter problems.

The batery will last for 3 years.
But how meany charges thad are is not on it.

If you wanne know more then I will ask the canon guy more.
I Asked an copy from the data sheet but thads was not possible as hi sayd.
Only for canon guys.

If (like me) you have a third-party 3-year warranty you really shouldn't worry to much. If it brakes take it to the store and the odds are prerry good they will give you a new one rather than fix the damaged one...i would not send it to cannon..just my 2 cents

Is there any way to buy a 3rd party warranty after I purchased my Canon Digital Rebel less than 30 days ago?

I just thought I'd let you know how my previous experiences with extended Warranties have gone. So far, I've only dealt with best buy and circuit city, but my experiences were similiar.

I bought a PDA at best buy for $229.00 with the extended warrenty for three years. I knew that this PDA was being discontinued and a newer model would soon be released. I waited three months, and took it back citing problems. They replaced it with the newer model no questoins asked.

I bought an Olympus c4000 at Circuit City. I also bought the extended warrenty for three years. About eighteen months and 10k pictures later I had scratched the lens and dirtied the viewfinder. I took it back citing problems, and they replaced it with a new c4000 no questoins asked.

Extended warranties are great investments providing you know how to take advantage of them.

In about a year, I'm going to cash in on a new dreb, hopefully by then a black model. And if the Dreb is discontiued by then, I'll be given whatever model replaces it...not a bad deal for a $100 warranty...

Say you have 20000 shots already (a year from now) and you are going on a big expensive vacation with the family. What should you do?

In the US I can get a drebel for $1000 just about anywhere - even overnight Fed Ex delivery. What if I go to Europe? No experience. Can't speak the language. Don't know where to buy.

I guess the thing to do is to bring an extra camera.

Claus,

If what you say is true, my camera will break down in about 2 months or less! And I just got it last Dec!

I already have 16,400 or so shutter clicks in my in 4.5 months of use!
