Spare Battery

Helo Hiya,

Better order them by ebay. You will get for 15 US$ 1800 MAH batteries excluding shipping cost Search for BP512 or PB 511 on ebay.

regards Walter

I've got two of these, and they perform very good:

One of my friends coming from us bought them and carry them for me.
Hiya,

Does anyone how good are these batteries?

It's around $40 cheaper than the Canon one, so I was wondering if
it was worth it.

Cheers.

SterlingTek seems to have gotten the most support/good reviews from folks around these forums (check the other Canon forums as well).

I have two of their BP-511 replacements - something like 1400MAh I think. Not as big as some people have found on eBay (e.g. 1800MAh), but size isn't everything!

I haven't used the SterlingTeks that much yet, but so far (two full charge cycles) they have proven excellent. Hard to tell if they actually last longer than the Canon-issue batts - I use the battery grip and two batteries (no matter which brand) seem to last forever .

I've had issues with a "half-full" Sterlingtek battery and the flash causing the camera to shut down as if it has a low battery - even when it apparently doesn't and can take non-flash pictures just fine. I suspect at least the battery I got does not have the kind of reserve the Canon battery does, possibly leaving you in the lurch if you need the flash and think you have half the battery life left.

It's possible that the SterlingTek (or other third-party batts) don't report their capacity accurately (or rather that the camera mis-interprets it).

It's also possible that you got a bad battery. I dunno. I never use the onboard flash so I cannot confirm nor deny.

Good data point to consider though.

I got mine for $11 I think, and if I'm using is that means I have a full-charged Canon battery in reserve. So if it happens I lose one shot, and I saved 30 bucks. I can't complain.

I have not heard of this from anyone else so it indeed could be just me.
