what is the best microdrive to buy and brand

I don't know about which is the best, but I ordered the following from a previous post. I have not received it yet.

For those of you who want a 340 MB Microdrive, go here:

They are selling the 340MB MicroDrivefor $169. I havn't bought from them myself, so I don't know how reputable they are, but the price is good.

The IBM's seem popular. The 340MB is cheaper but the 1GB is 30% faster and uses 30% less battery power than the 340MB.

I almost bought a 340MB microdrive from an etailer. I then saw a compatability link. I did not see the G1 on the list so I called and a gentlemen told me the IBM model he was selling had been having problems with G1 cameras. What problems specifically he didn't say. However the model he gave me was:

DMDN-10340

I have not verified these problems myself.

The 340 microdrive works great in my G1.

I did buy one from Datavis.com. However, they cheated me on over-night shipping and won't refund the difference. I paid $20 for overnight shipping and it came $5 ground. So my advise is just stick with ground shipping when ordering from them. The $169 price is a great price and makes the 340 the same per mb as the 1gig.

Don't worry about brand because they are all made by IBM. IBM sells them to Iomega and Microtech who package them with different add-ons, but the drive is the same.

I have exactly the model number you quote as being a problem and have had NONE! I use it in my G1 and D-30 and have taken hundreds of images with NO Problems. I download to mac and PC by reading the drive in a MicroTech or ZIO and also now pop it into my Cassiopeia Pocket PC.

I often wonder is some of the people on these forums either have problems with everything they touch or never really use anything, prefering instead to cruise the web looking for reports of problems then posting them without really knowing if they exist or not. Maybe there should be a separate forum for problem problems, no solutions, just problems. How about it Phil Laskey?

I got a MicroDrive 512MB and it works just perfect with my G1. Even The startup speed is almost the same as CF. For some reason everybody talks about MD 340 or 1GB and disregard 512, which in my opinion is the best choice, the same technology as 1GB (faster, less battery power) and not as expensive.

Then there are the other people that since they have not had a problem with a certain product think that those that do have are either nuts or are liers. I have both the 340Mb and the 1Gb with my G1 and D30 and have had problem with both cards in both cameras. I exchanged the 340 for a much never one and the problem persist but less frequently. The 340 locks my D30 completely having to remove the battery in order to reset it.
