From test shots I have seen the Minolta A2 comes close in picture quality under good lighting circumstances. If you really want your girlfriend to be able to take good shots without going through a learning curve you cannot go for the 300D or D70. Besides she will probably find these camera's way too large.
If you don't mind a bit of a hassle and 5 minutes of explaining things to your girlfriend the 300D can be handled, except maybe for its size. Basically what you do is the following: Create a mode with contrast 0, saturation +1, sharpness +1. (The standard parameter 1 has contrast +1 which reduces the available dynamic range.) Use either the P or A-DEP setting. Set the camera to review+info so that you always get the histogram. Learn to use the AV+
- setting with the scroll wheel. Look at the histogram after taking a picture. If too dark or too bright change the AV+ - setting and take the picture again. If you can deal with this bit of a hassle you can use the 300D mostly as a point and shoot.
The D70 will not be easier to use for your girlfriend. A dslr is not a p&s but I find I can use the 300D almost as a p&s. Cannot comment on the D70 as I never tried to handle one.
The other thing to consider is the price difference. The 300D is cheaper and comes with Photoshop Elements. The D70 kit is at least $200 more expensive than the 300D kit and this is without Photoshop. The D70 kit maybe just overdone for you. I think it is overdone for me, but I'm also convinced I would have been unhappy with "less", like an A2 or Pro1.
I will buy EOS-300D or Nikon D70.
I mostly shoot outdoors and dont use a flash much. I would like to
have good color, sharp/crisp images and be able to capture action
shots outdoors in full/semi auto mode.
My plans are not to buy any more lenses in the near future. I will
use the camera as if it had a fixed lens. My girlfriend have to be
able to take very good shots outdoors without much hassle. She
doesnt know anything about cameras.
I dont like post processing.
Witch one should i choose?
Thanks
