These two shots appeared in front of my very eyes today - one on the way home from taking kids to school, the other one in the kitchen.

So

Do you live like this:

or possibly even like this?

You must understand - I'm off on holiday on Friday, so frivolity is setting in :-)

Hi Mike

Actually I'm off to France - Alps - Megeve - skiiing (if you could call it that!). I am A B S O L U T E L Y U S E L E S S!! - but it's about the only holiday the kids can get enthusiastic about - and as long as I can ski down from the restaurant at the top of the mountain I'm happy enough. I guess I might just take some photos as well!

The birdhouse is actually next to a pond on the edge of the road near us. The pond is beautifully landscaped by the old guy who lives over the road - I've always meant to stop and photograph it, and the light was good this morning.

He was out of his house like a jackanabox - to see what I was up to - I told him how wonderful his pond was and he got more friendly. Anyway, I got some nice shots, and my wife took some 14X10's round for him this afternoon - apparently he was overjoyed. I might put some up on the website later, but I've rather overdone everyone's patience already today!

Jono

Bye the way, another thought came to me.If you are not a skier you can fake a sprained ankle and spend your time in the lodge with a drink in one hand and the camera in the other with a big smile for all the snow bunnies!!!! Mike

Jono,

The detail and lighting is just perfect on the cat picture. Go for a POTD. Have fun skiiing. Break a leg! (or is that in theater?)

Hi Mike

I didn't say I didn't like skiing, just that I was useless at it! Last year was our first time, so maybe it'll be better this time (maybe!).

The boys (12, 15, 18) snowboard, and are all pretty good (so we won't see them from dawn to dusk). I really enjoyed it, except for those minutes when you think 'mm this ain't so tough after all' go round a bend, and there's a precipice you're supposed to get down!

Ah well - I'll try and get some action shots of the boys.

Good Luck
Jono

Hi Joe

Thanks for the kind words, but if it won . . . . I'd be dissapointed, and if it didn't .... well then - I'd be p*ssed of wouldn't I ! Nothing ventured, nothing lost as it were :-)

I think the break a leg is if you're doing Macbeth - not sure it's relevant elsewhere - I'll do my best not to!

Hello Jono,

Sorry to dissapoint you, but the cat-shot proves again the E-10 flash causes 'closed eyes'! :-)))
I hope those 2 aren't close neighbours ...
Great shots and enjoy your hollidays.

heheh I have indeed seen it before - great shot!
So you have 'yard birds' too?

Incidentally, over here, a yard is normally a small piece of concrete out the back of a small terraaced house - but I think you guys are referring to a garden eh?

Hi Jaja - if they're close neighbours, they won't be for long :-)

As for the closed eyes - I moved heaven and earth to try and get the damn cat to open them - nothing worked - I had already moved the basket across the room to get it in the sunlight, shifted it round, everything - I took about twenty shots. That cat was A S L E E P and wasn't waking up for some damn fool with a camera :-)

Hopefully we'll enjoy ourselves - the snow reports suggest it may be a bit icy, but I'll just have to take photos instead :-)
