you never know what you'll find in the five minute walk through nyc's grand central terminal. that's what i love about candid and street photography ... you can do it all day or you can do it in five minutes, like i did tonight on the way home from the city. by the way, the may 2004 issue of popular photography has a really good article on street photography - makes for good reading.

they just got engaged - and they were getting a few shots taken in gct. i watched, shot off a few frames, and then everybody in the terminal applauded... it was a grand thing to be part of, and shows the true spirit of new yorkers. we really do stop and appreciate the little, and big, things in life....

canon rebel, with 50mm f/1.4 aboard. 1/30th sec, f/2.8, iso 1600. in post, noise reduction (fred miranda's isox pro).

not everybody applauded ;-) ... this fellow didn't look up from his book during the whole time. i've watched him for weeks now, he reads here most every afternoon, usually the same spot. today i shot him. done.

It's not about the equipment, but even the best photographer can't make a white wall interesting with a pinhole camera.

Andy,

Three things strike me when I look at your images...

1. You have a tremendously talented "eye" for getting everything just right. What's photogenic, what's the proper perspective, what to include, what to exclude, and on and on.

2. Your post processing is absolutely right on in every respect.

3. You have a love and understanding of NYC that shines through in your images.

And let me add a fourth....your shots are absolutely FABULOUS!

Well, I guess you get the idea...I like them a lot.

I caught this thread over in STF (I get around a bit...) and I gotta say, while the B&W version of the first shot is awesome, the color one is even better! I just love it. Did you say anything to the couple? I know they would love to see it, and probably even throw some greenbacks your way for a decent sized print of it.

Good stuff as always.

Andy,

They are some lucky folks especially if you got their names and gave them yours.

One of your absolute best, IMHO, captures (not that you ever have any bad ones.)

The older guy reading the book is a very interesting tidbit. Only someone who hangs around GC would know his habit. :-) Hard to believe that someone is able to concentrate on a book with all the action that's going on around him. Great shot!

Trogdooooooooooooooor! Burninating the countryside!

I asked my wife to be to marry me near the Buckingham Fountain in Chicago. It just happened that a guy with a poloroid was there to take our pict and sell it to us.

It is truly priceless. Even without the wonderful quality of yours :)

To us anyway! Sure hope you have a way to give them (sell them) that pict.

and looks almost identical to a photograph I have from my Grandma and Grandpa when they were married. The angle and style of clothing along with the black and white post processing are beautifully emotional.

It exudes a feeling of reverence and love.

Great job!
