Thanks both for your comments. I've been following this forum for some months, and I'm learning every day by following the various threads in this forum.. This picture is a result of this....

Hey Thomas, that picture looks great. Catching birds in flight is
no easy task, and you did a great job!

Hi Thomas,

Well, IMO this is a good example how difficult it is to catch those quick birds! I succeeded only a couple of times in my entire life to catch one realy sharp!
But....mostly I've no patience to wait...wait...wait... till the right moment!
This picture is tak-sharp at the tail I think.
Thanks for sharing.....

KR, Arno

This is a gull from my first session shooting birds... (had 300D 2 weeks now)

You don't want to know how many shots i took to get this lol!

What settings were you using? I was just using sports mode. I was using the canon 75-300mm USM lens...

Nice picture..

My settings was : f 8.0 at 75 mm, evaluative metering, AV mode, 7 points AF, exposure 1/640 sec..
Lens : Tamron 28-75 mm f/2.8..

I'm more or less always shooting by using AV mode and 7 points AF to get the possible best metering...

hows your tamron at 28mm? i tested a tamron at 1/10 and all of my shots in diff mm is sharp except for the 28mm. odd coz my 70mm shot was sharper.

I think it is quite sharp at 28 mm. You can have a check in my gallery http://www.pbase.com/thomasev (I think I have some 28 mm shots there...)

Thanks - I started out soind geese in flight (they are big and don't fly too fast. Next came ducks. They are much smaller and fly very much faster.

After getting fairly good at both the above the sea gulls, now, are quite ease.

Here's one straight from the camera (no post-proccessing other than a 100% crop reduced to 72 ppi for web presentation)

Ok, you guys inspired me, so I went down to the beach today to try my hand at the flying seagulls. I particularly like this one, and wanted to share:

I've had my Rebel for 6 days and already have 800 shots on it ;)
