Hi,

This is a Hyacinth Ara (blue macaw) my favourite animal as a pet. Unfortunately it seems to be impossible to get one.

The pic was taken in the zoo of Heidelberg. Well, the background is not perfect ( i think another photoshop excercise for me).

Regards,

Andreas

What a beautiful bird Andreas! Love it!

Hi Andreas;

Very nice head shot here. I use to work at a company where there was a co-worker who had a couple of Macaw parrots. But they weren't not all blue like this one. He just let them fly freely in the house.

Saw one in a pet store here in Toronto about 6 years ago - $12,000 US equiv. What doesn't come across in you shot is how BIG these critters are - the largest of the macaw family. IMHO better that the few in captivity are used as breeding pairs than pets...

Hi Andreas,

As I wrote before, you are realy graet in this animal shots. Everyone is a shot in the bulls eay.

jacques.

Jacques,

Thanks for your your kind comments. Well, this one i wouldn't consider

as a great one. The problem here was the cage. To resolve the grid the subject has to be in a determined distance to the grid and the cam too.
This is a great limitation.

Andreas

I think you are right also i don't understand the reason for their rarity.

Thanks! What i have read about them they seem to be very funny companions with a strong relationship to their owner.

Not sure if this is the same bird but looks similar. I took this shot in Kauai, HI at Hyatt Hotel. The bird is in the lobby and freely moves around.

Hi,

Well, this is a good joke.

I like the result of your PS work but you can still see the sudden transition between bird and background. This is no critique because i am in the beginners league of PS.

But this is not the reason why i wouldn't believe your story :)

1.) The value of the bird.

2.) The blue macaw has a very strong set of teeth. He is able to open

the brazilian nut. If he were free i am sure some hotel guests already had contacted their lawyers because of painful experiences with this funny
guy.

Andreas

My uncle in Frankfort, Ky is a breeder and has blue macaws. Not sure what the going price is though. He hand feeds all of his babies every three hours 24/7 (that would drive me nuts!). Here's his homepage:

I assure you this is a true photograph and no PS work was done with the exception of levels. The bird does not fly around the hotel freely but has an open area in the front lobby. This is a five star resort in Kauai so I'm sure money is no object. here is another that I took, you can see the onlookers to the right.

Hi,

Okay, you convinced me! Well, so it is a really attraction for this hotel.
Are the guests able to touch him?

Best Regards,

Andreas

Barry,

Thanks for the info. I am living closed to Frankfurt, but Frankfurt/ Germany.

So far i know the importacion/exportacion of those birds are nearly impossible because of strong restrictions.

Beside of this, mentioned by some others, it seems this bird is not affordable (by me) as a pet.

Regards,

Andreas
