Today's portrait - Ser Yee (PIC)

just an observation, it's a pretty pic.

but the open collar draws my attention down and off the photo. in all your other portraits the collar is close in the frame. just an observation....really a nice picture.

Hi Henry.

Very nice! The lighting is very well done in your pictures. What
lens do you use?

Don't know much about such products but should be OK.

However, if you want to shoot portraits seriously, you would be better off using some Alien Bees.

I bought my studio strobes when my daughter was 6 months old because I wanted to keep photographing her. I never regretted that move although I had to sell off my Leica M4-2 with 3 good lens to finance the purchase.

Hi Henry,

That is a beautiful shot, of course the subject itself helped a lot to make it a beautiful photo! :-)

Do you have any favourite lens(es) for taking portraits? I like to buy the Nikor 50mm 1.4 as a (cheap) portrait lens, is this a good choice?

Thanks for any advice and looking forward to see more,

Michel

Nice portrait!

There is one thing bothering me about it though. The shadows seem
to indicate that the key light is up and camera left, yet the
catchlights seem to indicate it's up and camera right?

Can you describe the lighting setup you were using?

Thank you for viewing.

I'm shooting these days with the 70-200mm f/2.8 lens. Most of the headshots are around 110mm ~ 165mm.

I think the 50mm is a little short and may have some facial distortions if you are not careful.

Suggest you use a zoom (I'm a convert, was always skeptical about zooms until this 70-200mm arrived) because that way you can adjust to suit the shot wihtout zooming the tripod and camera.

With every new shot, I try to improve and I hope I'm able to continue doing that otherwise I would get bored.

How's the weather now in the Midlands? Should be getting better for photography. I was living and studying in Brighton for a couple of years back in the late 70s and had many good memories of England.
