I'm looking at moving into real cameras, being an adult and all..., and am looking at getting a Nikon D70 next month, and a N80 sometime later this summer (as the budget and girlfriend allow). I was reading up on the Nikon DX lenses and they say they are for DSLRs, and my understanding is that they focus on a smaller area because the DSLRs have a smaller CCD than 35mm. I'm wondering if this is going to be a "problem" with sharing lenses between the D70 and the N80.

So, my questions are:
  • should I get the D70 kit and use the lens that comes in the kit on the N80?
  • should I get the D70 body only, and buy another lens that would be more compatable with both cameras?
  • if so, any recommendations? :)
  • should I get the D70 kit, and get a lens specific for the N80 when I get that? (again, and recomendations)
Basically, I'm a n00b that's not afraid to spend cash, but I don't want to waste it on duplicative lenses when I could have spent it on additional lenses, or higher quality ones...

Thanks,
Noah

DX lenses have a smaller image circle than 35 mm lenses.

Therefore you can use 35 mm lenses on a D70, but you cannot use DX lenses on a N80.

It doesn't make sense to buy a set of different lenses for each camera.
If you want some advice for lenses that can be used on both cameras:
Nikon 18-35 (a very, very good lens)
Nikon 17-35 (if you can afford it)
Nikon 28-200G (affordable)
Nikon 24-120VR (see my sample gallery: http://www.millhouse.nl/nikon24-120vr.html )
Nikon 80-200 or 70-200VR (if you have the budget)

Keep in m ind the crop factor for the D70 (compared to 35 mm film), when selecting lenses:
