Hi from Cologne / Germany,

I use a CF Card Sandisk ULTRA II 512MB,
for the combination of RAW+JPEG Basic there are 43 Pictures
possible, RAW allone has 47. I personally prefer the RAW/NEF Mode
because of the more qualitiy picture. You have all the choices you
want to edit and create in Nikon Capture to have JPEG Formats in
different sizes.

The camera assumes a RAW/NEF file will be 10.x megs, so on a fresh
512 meg card it says 43 images left, when you shoot however you get
between 80-90 pictures, I did an experiment with my D70 and 512 meg
card this way in NEF mode and can assure you 86 pictures on 512
megs is easily attainable.

This fits very much to my own experince - 43 NEF+JPEG = 77 pics on
a SanDisk Ultra II 512mb CF

Why Nikon have chosen to this they had no idea, but it might be
fixed in coming firmwareupdates.
