Quick simple setup

How much more simple can it get

Pvc pipe with a block of wood in one end, a hole cut out and a rear lens cap glued into the hole. The rear lens cap also has a hole cut out in the centre. Now the lens can be mounted. Inside the pvc pipe is felt. It just fits over the focus ring.

THIS IS A TWO HANDED SETUP. No way should this be left so the weight of the lens is all on the FZ10.

Paint it silver or black, for the meantime it works. its not pretty though ). I only worry about the image but will definitely be looking around at what is available or can be engineered

What size PVC pipe, Danny?

(For those who don't know what this is for, Danny is holding lenses from a 35mm camera up to the FZ10 to get excellent high-macro pics. Look for threads initiated by nzmacro for examples. Different size lenses will work.)

The internal size is 74mm and that allows for self stick on felt to cover the inside and be just a nice slide on fit without scratching anything )

Its rough but it works for the meantime. If anyone else has ideas on mounting, please lets hear them. We might just find a clean simple way.

Ha! It looks really strange to see this hanging off the camera

I'll probably stick to my close up lens attachments (Raynox 250 gets pretty close, for example)

So, you can manually focus the FZ10 by rotating the PVC, as well as focus the Nikon lens normally, using your left hand, right?

Yes you probably could. It is a snug fit over the focusing ring and at least thats made of a textured steel that sits slightly over the rest of the body.

You will see there though, that theres a cut in the side to allow for it to fit over the bottom small plate that protrudes at the bottom of the FZ10.

At the ratios this setup takes, the focusing ring on the FZ10 will do very, very little, if anything at all for focus. It would activate the magnifier on the screen though, that could be handy in a fixed setup with stationary subjects.

The focusing is actually achieved by using the added lens zoom collar or slide, which ever the lens has. Thats where the focusing is done and the FZ10 is set to digital zoom and thats used to avoid vignetting with the added lens. At 12x optical @ F/8, it just avoids vignetting but the digital zoom gets rid of it all together.

Combined, the zoom on the FZ10 and the slide or ring zoom on the added lens decides on the overall ratio. So the zoom collar/slide on the added lens does both ratio size and focus.

Sorry Greg, hard to explain mate ). I can see where I'll end up getting something made around the thread of the dress ring for sure and probably in either stainless steel or alloy.

Well, I was able to epoxy a stepdown ring to the rear lens cap, then cut a hole in that. Works like a charm... Bring on the bugs!

Thats what I was hoping for ). Well done and this should be fun Greg. Even start with stamens inside flowers, the details we get to see are wonderful. Looking forward to it Greg. You will get used to what works and how it works really quick once you start.
