Hi All,

Name is Dawn-I've been a lurker pretty much around the board. Teacher by calling, Photographer at heart.

Just got the Pro1 delivered Friday afternoon. While I was running around buying necessities like; uv filter, spare battery, new neckstrap, I stopped by a nature park near my home. Couple of converted RAW files, Digital Zoom shots, Super Macro, Macro and one quick snapshot of a 'moment'.

http://www.pbase.com/jajlo/pro1_overfelt_gardens

I'm still reading the manual, but experimenting too. I have a hunch, once I really learn my way 'around' the camera it's going to be fabulous. (ie: trying to rapidly get to super macro-etc-scroll up not down-but dang, I wish there was a shortcut to it! ie: two rapid presses on the macro button or a 3 second hold on it-SOMEthing-but I'll live lol.)

Couple of pleasant surprises is the nice Manual Focus and the digital zoom was a lot crisper than I was expecting. I also really liked the results of a couple of pictures I've taken in 'portrait' mode.

Prior camera I'd been abusing was an A-40. I feel like I have a real camera again since my Pentax was stolen years ago. All my motherly camera instincts kicked in.. Get a filter on this puppy and a decent neckstrap! (now to get a real bounceable flash and life will be GOOD)

Now, to go annoy my cats some more by sticking the camera in their face. ;D awn

Stunning pictures Dawn, i can't wait to take a day off to try out my Pro1.
Thanks for sharing.

I think they're (the ones who tried Pro1 at the stores) exaggerating the freezing issues on Pro1 LCD/EVF, hell, my G5 would do the same thing, i've tried the A2, it freeze when focus momentarily as well.

Grin Summerwind-

You know.. I did hesitate for a split second, thinking of all the autofocus complaint's I'd been reading, but just for a second.. and considering I was on single shot, portrait mode.. (poor abused camera) but, HAD to take the picture. Way too classic. And figured, what the ....LL.. It's DAYlight. hehe.

btw, thank you for the welcomes. ;D

Funny story-My reaction Friday, in the teacher staff lounge.. (as in my classroom that morning, I'd been idling by the computer every 10 min-hitting refresh on the UPS page-eating lunch later, popping out of my seat to see if the UPS truck was here... every 5 minutes..)

When it was 11:25 and I had 5 minutes left.. Secretary came up to get a treat, and I have joking asked if my package had arrived.. (I was already standing getting ready to leave) Secretary went, yah, came 5 minutes ago-

I flew out of there, (RAN) out of there, yelping "BYE" and behind me I heard the giggles and delight of my co-workers who had never seen me move that fast....

Good thing the battery had to charge, I would have never survived the rest of the day with the kids 1 1/2 hours from spring break, crayola model magic, markers, glue and chocolate all being dispersed.. (IE: MUSTN"T open camera yet) but, as soon as they left........... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...

oh man... saw the converter thread too.... course, that was a salient buying consideration.... hmm.. one camera to do most of what I need it to do, good experiance with my A-40, a REAL lens, REAL DOF, (lord, I'd missed those) and I love the flip it LCD panel- everyone knows I have a digital camera and as soon as I take their picture.. "Let me Seeeee, Let me Seeeee" I wasn't always able to retract the lens fast enough and constantly had to be on fingerprint guard. I'm really looking forward to taking pictures of my students, flipping the lcd to show them the picture, and as they giggle-opps! I hit the shutter button!

ahhhh......i know that feeling all to well...........after seeing the converter thread, it's getting ordered as of first thing tommorow from my local shop........they give me internet pricing so i stay loyal.

Believe the "And you are" bird is a mute swan-suspect he does not migrate in CA but they do migrate here in the tundra of WI. They can be quite aggressive and can bite and really beat you up with those wings.

I lied-that's what I get without using the bird book-it is a domestic goose-think it is a Embden which is a common and large farm goose. Sorry-have been looking for our Mute Swans coming thru on our local lake-none yet.

Nice photos...and coming from someone who just bought the camera is a big plus in my opinion. The duck, goose, mallard...whatever the heck thing it is, has sold me. Nice clean images...and since I'm in New Mexico, I don't think low light is an issue.

Next week I've got jury duty and then inlaws and then taxes and then ...off to Utah, my favorite spot. I was hoping to have a new camera by then...I'm still using the G2...the Pro 1 is just around the corner. Anyway...thanks for posting.

Jeff

Have a great time with your Pro1! I also had an A40, but only for a one-week vacation in the Canadian Rockies during which I didn't take one picture with my film SLR; then got a g2 and later a G3. You're one generation ahead but the point is the same, the A40 was a good starter camera but the G-series and now the Pro1 give you a lot more capablity.

Can' t you save the settings for super macro under one of the two custom settings?

doh, hadn't even thought of the Custom settings for that.. hmmmmm.. doesn't seem to be be taking tho, soon as you set super macro it kicks out of the menu for your shot/versus saving the setting.

The Pro ! looks good.

By the way, that is NOT a hyacynth--it is a wisteria.
