Well after hours of time and hundreds of pictures I have come to the conclusion that something is not quite right with the unit so I am sending it to the NJ facility for service. I am not going to sit here and bash Canon over this brand new unit and its issues as it could happen with any manufacturer so my question is this:

Has any one recently sent a unit to the NJ facility and if so what was the turn around time for the repair?
Thanks

Well guess I'll spend the time learning PS CS :-)

Just MHO, but I have heard of long turnaround times and cameras being returned unfixed from NJ. I live on the east coast, but I sent mine to Irvine for an exposure adjustment and it was back ten days from the day I mailed it. I mailed it insured priority from US mail. I was really happy with the turnaround and the service.

I am sure your turnaround would be similarly fast. It is so hard to be without our babies ;-).

sammy,

I sent in a 10D (refurb) to NJ along with a 17-40L on a Friday, got there on Monday. The 10D (scratch on sensor) was returned unfixed because Canon doesn't warranty refurbs (I found out only the dealer gave the 30 day warranty - so I sent it back to him). Long story short, I got the 10D back in a week but they kept the lens to calibrate and got it back 2 mondays from when they got it. Grand total of 17 days away from home... :-( and they didn't have to fix anything - just calibrate a lens.

Send it to Irvine. Might cost more to ship, but sounds like from what I hear, it's worth it.

My 2c.

Hi Lisa,

Did you call Irvine first or just the Canon 800 number? Did they give you an authorization number to ship it in or anything like that? Did they prefer that you send it to NJ since you are on the east coast or did they just leave that up to you?

Thanks, Tom.

Overnighted mine to the NJ service center on a Thursday. It stayed in recieving until the next Tuesday. Total door to door was 3 weeks. Some seem to get them back faster. Good luck I am sure you will miss it.

for me they gave me both addresses in an email and said I could choose. I live about an hour from the NJ location and figured I would drive it up there on Monday since i am off. That would have it there fast and cost me the least amount of money. Plus I would feel better about it. The above thread puts a wrench in things for me, now I am not sure what to do. I hope I can get more feedback from other people by Monday

Who did you originally contact? Was it by email or phone? Did they give you a return number or anything like that?

Thanks, Tom.

Original contact was by email via the website. I then called a 800 number in the email and spoke with someone at Canon. Even though the second email I received said specifically not to send the lenses I wanted to confirm that and also see of it was possible for me to drop off the equipment at the NJ facility instead of shipping. They said I could but it would not be fixed while I waited, which was expected anyway.
Sorry missed the part in the prvious post.

everything I have read indicates that Irvine actually fixes the cameras, and does it much faster than NJ....... I have had no occasion to use them till I had a 50mm take a dump this past weekend....better pack it up......

Sounds like a carbon copy of my service with the NJ facility. Turn around about 3 weeks. Only adjustments were necessary.

I dropped mine off at the NJ location on a Wed and it was ready on Mon. The problem was that they never got back to me that it was fix. Good thing I decided to contact them, which was 3 weeks later. Minor adjustments. I'm very pleased with the results.
