should I buy a L lens?

you are saying that the sigma 120-300mm f2.8 weights 6 lb?

!!!

Takki
Takki wasn't asking about 120-300 lenses... If I remember, 70-200
was the preferred range.

At $2000, the Sigma 120-300 F2.8 is more than most L lenses.
Nice idea though... did anyone ask Takki about carrying a 6 lb lens
around?

in a local shop!

i forgot to take me Rebel with me, but they let me testing a working Rebel with that HEAVY L lens! (but no CF card...)

the 70-200mm F2.8 L USM is very quiet when auto focussing.
the USM motor is much faster than my current 75-300mm IS USM.

i hope that these type of motors (USM) of that L lens are FAST enough to autofocus (capture) a fast moving race car.

poor me...there wasn't a CF card in that Rebel from the store.

but i saw one thing, button on that L lens. There was a switch to lock the focus...something like 3m to~

whats that for switch? the man from the shop tried to explain me, but i wanna hear from you guyz.

but the 100-400mm L IS USM has IS and its heavier too! I expect.
But the man said the biggest aperture in this lens is F4.5

Takki
I already have the 300D/Rebel kit lens, the 50mm F1.8 , the
75-300mm F4-F5.6 IS USM and the Sigma 24-135mm F2.8-F4.5

So should I buy a L lens?
I'm interested in the 70-200mm F2.8 or the Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 APO...
I already have so many lenses...

what would you do?

thanx!

How do you think it possible to judge sharpness of any lens when used to pan fast moving objects with a slow enough shutter speedto show such backround blur?

Just the vibration from the roaring engine is enough to blur the image slightly, then there is the fact that the car/bike, whatever is bouncing slightly!

Nice images ;)

I have tried this lens and found it VERY sharp, just didn't go for it because of the weight, although not bad weight for a 120-300 f2.8!, Nice lens sigma!
(and i know most of the time people have to use photoshop to add
sharpness)

The switch locks the focus range...

ie: if you are only going to shoot things that are 3 metres or farther away, then you put that little switch to 3. This will allow the lense to focus faster as it doesn't have to worry about hunting closer thant 3 metres...

Why does he show those samples to show the sharpness? I have to say that those samples are not very sharp.

go here http://takki.fotopic.net/c93641.html

or an example http://takki.fotopic.net/p2296832.html

so you like my picz (made with the 75-300mm IS USM)?

sorry folks...i want more sharpness. I've really seen better/sharper pictures of moving race cars.

ok and you are right, while panning, you can't argue about the sharpness of a lens.

so we have to see some normal (not panning) picz of that Sigma lens before we judge the sharpness of that Sigma lens.

The Sigma kicks ass!! I think it must be hard for you to admit that a SIGMA can be as sharp as a Canon L lens! WELL GUESS WHAT, IT IS !!!!!!!!!!!!

Here some more people who think the Sigma is as sharp as L glass.

If you shoot in horrible lighting conditions, L lense is a must. I found myself shooting 1600 at 2.0 today (135mm 2.0L) about 60 frames, very harsh situation

so you still can use a reasonable fast shutter.
