Well, just noticed that my LCD cover is gone. Must have lost it in the park today while photographing my nephew.

Let's see; when I worked in a camera store in 1980, a small piece of rubber that would have been a five cent washer in a hardware show was a nine dollar eyecup with the nikon logo on it.

I'm terrified to think what a replacement lcd cover is going to cost!!

I am patiently waiting to make my purchase. In the mean time I have been thinking about cutting a piece of the plastic I have used to cover the screen of my Palm Pilot. It is held on by static electricity and if it falls off I'll just cut and apply another one. I'm pretty sure I read about it here on a previous post.

Mine actually fell off. Another photographer found it and place it on top of a bridge post. When I walked back by (about 50 minutes later!) he noticed that I had the D70 and said, "Is that your's?" (pointing to the LCD cover).

I believe that it catches on clothing, especially jeans pockets.

I'm looking for a solution too.

Regards,

Dan.

It does look kinda ugly on the black camera. I'm expecting mine to go any day now. I bet you that because of the camera's popularity, there will be aftermarket theme LCD covers just like those cell phones cases :) Can you imagine?....Hot pink LCD covers....yeah.

I can tell you how much it costs because I just bought two. I lost mine last week.

If you can find them at all they generaly list for $8.99. I found only two places that had them in stock. The bad thing is the shipping at both places was $8.99!

The two places were http://www.etronics.com and http://www.precision-camera.com . I chose precision even though they were $10.00 because I didn't trust that etronics actually had them in stock and the $8.99 shipping at precision was fedex 2 day so I got them really fast. Precision had 3 in stock when I ordered them and I ordered two, so they still may have one.

Here's a tip, get one of those lens leash's. The Kind that attaches to the strap. Cut the big round end off, run it through hole on the bottom of the LCD and tie a knot. you will never lose the cover again. If you don't understand what I mean let me know and I'll try to post a picture.

Alternatively, you can just stick a scott tape at the bottom of the cover to the bottom of the camera. That way, if it should some how get dislodged, it would still dangle.

Just get a thin leather shoe string. cut to length from back of LCD cover to the left strap hook. Works perfect.

To keep from losing your LCD cover. Get a lens leash like this:

http://www.ritzcamera.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&productId=5059163&cmCat=SEARCH

Cut the big round end off, thread it through the whole and tie a knot big enough so that it wont go back through the hole. attach the other end to your strap and you will never lose that cover again!

I'm using overlayplus .. see http://www.overlayplus.com .. also the clear type but they have exact 1.8 inch types for digital cameras. Super clear.
--------------
I used the WriteRight things on it from my Sony PDA. The
completely clear kind, not the hazy stuff. I had to cut it to size
though but it fits nicely and make sure you get all the visible
bubbles out.

It fell off the same day the LCD cover did! I saw it fall off so I didn't lose it though, I found I could use the view finder better without it so I just leave it in the camera bag now.

I ordered an $8.00 En-EL3 on ebay. Shipping was another $7 (comes in from Hong Kong). Added bonus: it comes with three free LCD shields! I want to get rid of the big plastic D70 shield anyway. Here's the link to the the ebay site. I'll ley folks know about the battery and the shields when they arrive, sometime next week.

last year i purchase a 'lens keeper leash ' attaches to camera with a re-closeable claspand is connected by a short string to a small plastic disc that is glued . a very cheap item $1.99 ....compaired to the price i read somewhere for a lcd cover $35.00

That's what I did, except I used gaffers tape because it won't leave much residue and is easy to take off. I also cut a piece of a PDA screen protector and put it on the cover so it wouldn't get scratched as well.

He he, some one did the same...I did the same, sticking a piece of protector on the cover...and then I thought, why then I need a protector on a cover which is protecing the LCD. So, I removed the cover for good and instead, stick a protector on the LCD. No worry about losing the cover, no worry about the cover getting scratched.

The only remaining issue is the protector I used makes the LCD a little fuzzy. I'm still searching for a good protector film.
