G'day all! After a false start or two from eager onlookers who stumbled across our work, eg http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1024&message=8254615 , it is my honour to officially announce the launch of the Minolta FAx that Niamh (pronounced neev), Claudio and I have created over the last couple of weeks. :o)

Claudio and I offered to help Niamh in response to her thread asking for interest in FAQ contributions:
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1024&message=8015292 .

Claudio provided the web authoring skills and we all got busy with a lot of hard work and late nights. I can't believe how fortunate I am to be able to work with such great people. I wish all jobs were so enjoyable and rewarding! I told them to be prepared for some praise when they asked me to make the announcement. :o) hehe

We have included a bunch of information that covers many topics we have noticed coming up in the dpreview MTF. While we concentrate on the Ax, we also cover more general digital imaging stuff and forum topics like the Minolta Challenges and even dpreview's MTF itself!

The Minolta FAx is linked from the Minolta Forum Challenges gallery here:
http://www.pbase.com/mtf_foto_studies

Why not bookmark the MF Challenges gallery and check it out? There is lots more in there than just our new Minolta FAx.

The Minolta FAx does not belong to Niamh or Claudio or me as the self-appointed editorial team :o), but to all of us in the MTF. Please treat it as your own (but please don't mess with the site) and give the editors any feedback, suggestions or contributions you have to improve our site. We know that our MTF group has a lot of knowledge and enthusiasm to share and this is an ideal way to strengthen our little community even more. It will be fantastic if you can contribute complete articles for editorial review, but any advice will be welcome. I'm sure people will be politely pointing out errors we have probably already made. There are links on the Minolta FAx page for feedback. I sure hope Claudio wants more e-mail because he is the key editorial linkee so far, but there are also e-mail links for all three of us at the top. :o)

Well, since John is showering us with praise, let me tell you that he has been a major force in this little project ... You will recognize his touch in many of the topics, and you should REALLY thank him if all the cross -reference links don't take you in never-never land in cyberspace.

Niamh and myself often wondered if he was writing and editing in his sleep! I personally think that he must have trained Molly and the 7 Ants to do all the work... but I have never been able to confirm it ;-)

I also want to say thank to Niamh for her idea: I had been toying with a similar project but I felt overwelmed in approaching it alone, and she put all her enthusiasm in getting this going. It is always amazing when you sit back and think about it, how the Internet has made the world smaller and allowed us to work on this project from 3 different continents!

Alright, Alright.. I'll stop here before I become too emotional LOL ;-)

Anyway as John said, we just wanted to get the ball rolling, but we expect the document will grow with many more submissions from all you forum members. Enjoy and share back you knowlegde!

Claudio

An herculian task, and a great one.

Browsed through it and what I like is that there are no loose ends (oh well, few), which is what separate the amateurs from the pro's.

Thanks Claudio
Thanks John
Thanks Niamh

...but why Ax only? What about all the 7x line? Differences aren't
so big. Of course those are words of a 7Hi owner :-)
Hi Plamen,

You did not read carefully ;-) Here you go:

http://www.pbase.com/mtf_foto_studies/mtf_faq#DX

If there are specific 7X questions that are not covered and should be added, and some volunteer with that camera steps forward, we can surely add. This is by definition and evolving document and the content really depends on what people contribute. Since the 3 of us are all A1 owner we started with what we know.

For general suggestions on new topics or those already in the Minolta FAx, we would prefer discussion in MTF threads so that everyone can see what's going on and have a say and so that the editors don't get bogged down too much. It's part of the whole sharing thing. By all means e-mail the editors if you want to contribute an article or point out a mistake, but please think about the value of your ideas to the MTF community and use MTF threads where that might benefit others.

You guys are great! I am just starting with photography with the A1 and this is just what I was looking for. All the folks here at the MTF are super and a wealth of knowledge and humor. 2 thumbs up!
