Has any regular board member tested this? I'd hate to trash a $1000 camera for an april fools joke. Also is it in english?

Also I was one of the strong naysayers about hacking the camera firmware.

So if it's legit.."I stand corrected"

Jeff

sure, it's legit, I've been using the hacked version for several months and like being able to select image quality with the set button. Also changing the embedded jpg quality for RAW saves CF space.

Have bin using the original russian hack since it was available. But you are talking about a version with fec control. Does it retain the working funtions of the russian hack? If so, where can i find it? What more can it do?

the forum last day, I have downloaded it, but not installed it yet.
Not sure if I want to install it, don't need the adjustable FEC, as
I own the 550EX.

I've just started shooting in raw, and this is something interesting for me. How much memory do you "save" by changing the size of the embedded JPEG? Is it like five or ten mor RAW-images on a 512 mb card or what?

If you adjust it to save the embedded as a small course image, you'll get about 20% more storage.

yep, that's part of the deal. Basically, the microprocessor is saying something is not right. Look at it this way, you know what version of firmware are using this way.

You also lose the ability to see whether the picture is in focus when in review mode, since you can't zoom in very much. The decent JPEG in the RAW file is, IMHO think, one of the nice advantages of the 300D over my old G3.

Jeff,

My guess is that is about the same kind of thing as the first version from the same author, which everybody seems to have had generally satisfactory results with. (Not that everything possible worked!)

We'll probably see a lot of reports on its behavior here over the next little while.

I myself have not installed either version.

Best regards,

Doug
