Well, Thunder Bay is starting to thaw out.

I noticed the river by my house was running pretty good and I took my camera and started shooting. This is the McIntyre River and she is running right into Lake Superior.

I went to the ship yards and got a pic of a boat that has been stuck here all winter. She's pretty big.

and then i spotted a big old barge up on blocks. I converted this one to B&W.

Then a couple of guys on a tug boat went by... I tried out my smart zoom on my camera and it turned out pretty good.

Thunder Bay is right on Lake Superior and this is another shot of the sleeping giant. I think I may have sharpened this a bit too much.

I also stopped at Kakabeka Falls to try and catch some of the thaw there.

and finally I found a mysterious wall to nowhere.... this is a giant cement wall that looks like it had been bashed down some years ago... I don't have any idea why it was there....I'm gonna have to do a little research i think.

Hope you enjoyed my mini tour of Thunder Bay

Awesome Len. Isn't the first picture of the Current River though? I could be wrong. You certainly made the rounds today, didn't you? KB falls should be looking great in a month or so. Keep up the good work and if you get a chance have a look at the pics I posted yesterday at the demolished grain elevator.

Pretty but rough country. That area I would need a dry suit vs. a wet suit.
Nice pictures.

I've looked really hard, and had a hard time finding suggestions for improvements.

First picture: the camera wasn't quite horizontal (told you these are comments from a picky guy), can be fixed with the proper cropping.

Second picture: I like this view. Did you have a way to make a picture from a higher point of view, so as to see the bridge. Would have been a great picture too !

Third picture: Cropped a little tight to my taste. I'd love to see a little more of the background around the boat.

Last one: a little blurry (maybe autofocus focuses on a few twigs located closer to you than the wall, which is your main subject).

And also: I loved these pictures. Wish there were more of them !

I didn't even notice that but now i see what you mean.
Second picture: I like this view. Did you have a way to make a

everything around that area is restricted . (not that this has stopped me before but I'd have to wait till a weekend...good idea though)
Third picture: Cropped a little tight to my taste. I'd love to see
a little more of the background around the boat.
this one is actually as wide as i could go... there were three other boats around it and power lines and boxes and garbage. I would have lided to have more scenery too but it just wasn't available....oh well take what i can get)
Last one: a little blurry (maybe autofocus focuses on a few twigs
located closer to you than the wall, which is your main subject).
Yes. one downfall of the auto focus. It was pretty hard to get through the branches.....I could have used the maual but i really don't care for that feature right now....I'm not comfortable with it
And also: I loved these pictures. Wish there were more of them !
Thanks alot for the critique....mucho mucho appreciated.......Don't worry...there will be plenty more

Great shots. that 3rd image of the boat (the Marilyn Grace) is a great lakes fishing boat (fishing tug) they were built like submarines and I swear there the toughest boats on the lakes able to sail in waters whales would be scared of. those big rectangular panels move and expose the working decks I've seen the same sorts of boats working on erie in all difrent sizes. talk about extreme boating. I'd love to see thunder bay and more of superior.

Hi Len,

Nics pics of Thunder Bay. i like the second shot the best. Like a previous poster already said, keep an eye on the horizon to keep it level. I have a hard time with this also and usually have to level and recrop in Photoshop.

The weather is starting to warm up and there should be lots of more photo opportunities as the lakes and rivers open up. I am hoping to get some local harbour shots also. With all the snow this year, Kakabeka Falls should be awesome.
