Do you know anything about it? What are the differences with the FZ1/2 as far as size, etc. Can you share with us anything?

Thanks.

Bob was briefly responding to inquiries at Steve's this morning (US). I asked about the fz3. No response. Considering that he was blind sided by the release of the fz2 and has never fully acknowledged the fz1 upgrade features, it's doubtful he has anything to share on the fz3.

Well hey, at least I know you can buy one for around $500, that's been announced. For what, other than a "3 MP, 12X with O.I.S.," only Mr. Matsushita knows for sure.

Well yeah for $500 one would expect more than just an extra 1MP ===

Too bad Mr Panasonic Bob doesn't want to share what he knows and what he doesn't know assumes it doesn't count or doesn't really exist. I'd like him to say something like "a FZ3 hummm.... let me see what I can find out... "

I think there are many very good reasons PB can't/won't respond having to do with R&D, marketing (hah!), lack of information, etc. It's quite likely that he knows nothing more than we do and has no way of finding out. Matsushita is a gigantic corporation with layer upon layer upon layer.

IMO we're fortunate to have him as a resource. As consumers we sometimes feel as though we have a "right to know" as we make purchasing decisions, but the fact is that while it would be nice sometimes, but it is certainly not a right.

Besides, at $500, the camera would be "head to head" with Canon's S1 IS, so that would be about the right price entry point for a 3MP camera with manual focus and the other Fluzi goodies. After all, the FZ10 started out life at $600, the FZ1 started out at $450 - look at them now!

I don't think "us" consumers have forced him to do anything in the name of being "a right". He comes and goes as it pleases him. I certainly don't consider him anything more than another poster.

It would be nice if he could contribute more as an anonymous poster and give up his input; instead of having the Panasonic Bob title and giving us "vague" answers or none with the excuse that his career is on the line.

cheers :-)

Hi Hariette - I hope you don't think I was attacking you..... Just presenting my perspective :)

Anonymous or not, on company time or not, I'm sure there are things he simply cannot talk about: future products and other proprietary information have to be at the top of the list.

I'm confident that there is a non-disclosure agreement signed by PB sitting in a file somewhere and it has nothing to do with anonymity.

It's refreshing to me that there is someone who actually understands what is out of bounds, what the non-disclosure represents, yet goes out of his way to give common folk like us whatever is in-bounds.

(I also think it's a bonus for Panasonic BTW.......)

Glenn, you may be right. I'm afraid though that "Panasonic Bob" is in the dark just as much as Panasonic seems to want the rest of the U.S. market to be about their digital camera products. So that makes him the ideal rep, right?

John, as I said in an earlier post:

I wouldn't say he's the ideal rep, but I do think it's better than nothing.

Alright, darn it! The gig is up! I'm really Panasonic Bob, which is why "he" and I have had such semi-heated threads at times. I was trying to throw you all off track.

The FZ3 is already in my office now. However, you're all somewhat misinformed. It's a 12MP camera, and therefore (like the rest of the market) it only has a 3x zoom. It's also as big as an average human head and weighs 42lbs without the battery (which is actually a car battery, so it does add a little bit more weight). We had to use a car battery because we had to install a self-contained air conditioning/cooling unit due to the heat build-up. The LCD on it is 7" widescreen and can view DVD movies via the built-in DVD-RW drive, which is new to this product since it's a joint venture between Panasonic and Sony in order to continue the Mavica line. It has a proprietary flash shoe that will only fit one type of flash (costs $1,200 and is only available in Japan), and despite having only a 3x zoom, the lens accepts a new standard in filter sizes: 106.294mm (also only available in Japan). It has laser hologram focus assist allowing you to take pictures in the complete darkness of a black hole in space, and with the higher battery power, the laser doubles as a self-defence weapon. The tripod mount is centered under the lens this time and away from the battery trunk door, but the camera is too heavy for any tripod anyway (future tripods will only be available in Japan). There will also be a Leica version of the camera that will cost 22x as much, and will only be available in Europe, but all accessories for the Leica model will still only be available in Japan.

I hope this answers all of your questions.

(Glenn gets his breath back from the laughing and says)

Absolutely the funniest thing I've read in weeks. I just about spit out my coffee when I got to the trunk door.

Mr Real Panasonic Bob

As usual you are being evasive, can you be specific and answer the important questions ?
Does it come in silver & black ?

When can we expect it to be available & what is the approximate price (to the nearest million $ will do).
Oh I nearly forgot, will you be sending one to Phil for testing? :-)

Regards
PT

Dear Real Panasonic Bob:

My sources tell me that the 12MP is achieved with a 4MP CCD. Each sensor is equipped with a tiny rotating wheel of 3 color[RGB] filters. The camera takes three successive pictures, one of each color and then the software combines it all into a photoshop file suitable for cropping and printing as a 4X6.

Do you know how it compares with the Minolta A1?

Will it accept the T-Con 17 without an adapter?

When will it become available in Ethiopia?

Regards,
Michel
