MediaVault is the latest utility for digital photographers that allows them to quickly and easily download pictures from their memory cards. The program runs in the system tray and automatically recognizes a memory card being inserted into the card reader. The program then proceeds to automatically download the images, and place them in a directory (whose layout is easily changed through an advanced template system).

It definitely isn't. Check the main page out for some of the features: http://www.marstracker.com/MediaVault

Here are some of the variables you can use in the directory naming template:

System Variables: %Y% (year), %M% (month), %D% (day)
EXIF Variables: %exif.tag% i.e. %exif.model%
Dynamic Variables: i.e. %ask:Where was this picture taken?%

As far as I know, Autorun can't do that ;)

Check the canoncams.com thread if you do have any suggestions on features you would like to see included.

Can all be done from context menu's in XP.

However, I'm sure it works well, just no need for it here

Cheers

I really would like to know (not trying to be a smarta$$, just truly interested) how one can have their pictures automatically copied to i.e.

c:\photos\%exif.model%\%y%\%m%-%d%-%y% which would be
c:\photos\C2100UZ\2004\03-29-2004 in this case or:

c:\photos\%ask:job name%\%m%-%d%-%y%
c:\photos\whateverIansweredToThatQuestion\03-29-2004

using context menu's and no 3rd party software, as I have been looking for this solution for years, and never found working method (I even posted here, and no one knew), which is why I wrote this software.
However, I'm sure it works well, just no need for it here

I also believe this is not a Windows feature. There is another popular app, however, that does it. Downloader Pro from Breeze Systems.

I learnt about the breeze software just this weekend after I posted a link to mine, but mine is ahead of Download Pro already (when it comes to copying), and I got some really cool features planned, and you can't beat the price: free ;)

Nice work!

Is there any way to incorporate the system date rather than the file date when naming files? I have a couple of cameras that get used by many employees who rarely ever reset the date and time after switching/recharging batteries. This leads to redundancy in naming (ie. P1010001.JPG). Just curious.

Keep up the good work,

Dave

Hi David, Yes, the affore mentioned Downloader Pro 1.2 will do this for you. ie year now/month now/day now/ in preferences.

Does this software have the ability to batch rename files on transfer also? I use a yyyymmdd - ### file name format on all my prints.

Also, can you batch edit the exif on transfer...i.e. add my © 2004 David Schultz into the exif data?

Thanks in advance for the info.

Short answer yes, also lossless rotation. My prefered path is C:\Documents and Settings\Colin\Desktop\photos\subject 0123 Tue 30 Mar 04.jpg where "photos" is the downloaded folder ceated on my desktop and "subject" I change as required. The rest is from the EXIF data.

Yes it will be possible, I will be adding many more system variables, including current dates in many formats. The next buiild should include this feature.

First of all thank you JOE for pointing me here! And second of all thank you etron for the Mediavault! I just downloaded it and it looks like the ticket I was looking for too.

I would like to know also if it will be possible to save the EXIF info from the RAW files into a txt format with each file name? The Downloader Pro does this and I liked the idea of it as you will have all the EXIF info for each file beside each image file to look at via notpad so it could easly be coppied and pasted into an e-mail or even a post on a Forum. :-)

Will it work for other file types e.g., nikon?

It is designed to work with external card readers which show up as a drive letter on your PC, so any camera should work, but there is no direct interact with the camera. I asked Josh to host the discussion of the beta as his forums are targetting camera users while mine is dedicated to Home Automation etc. Give it a try!

The MV website is http://www.marstracker.com/mediavault if you want more info.

try http://www.marstracker.com/mediavault , there are 2 mirrors there, and there is a link to the forum which should work.

Thanks for your kind comments. I wasn't planning on adding this feature simply because I didn't think of it. I will put it on my todo list with high priority as this is not a bad idea at all. Thanks!

I downloaded and installed it. It doesn't recognise that there are files on my card! Maybe it doesn't like Nikon's filing system. I went back to downloader.
