which white are you using for high key. Snow white, artic white? The snow white paper roll looks warmer and the artic cooler. Artic looks white white though.

Input appreciated.

Thanks,

Arctic white. It blows out nicely when I bounce light off it. It tends to go to grey nicely when I let light fall short of it.

Babe,

I have been using the Superior brand in the "Snow" coloration, which Superior numbers as 111428. It appears pretty white on digital or film with my brand of strobes (Speedotron) and flashtubes.

In the past I have shot on other brands, like Savage, and various whites and off-whites.

what the difference is or will be :-(

I am kind of getting my knickers in a twist here. Sorry if this is a little too descriptive.

Just set a custom WB off whatever 'white' you're using and you will get great results - they are all fundamentally white and close enough. Alternatively, set a white point on your curve in PS. Babe wrote:

25 years ago I use to work in a camera stores best as I can remember in Superior papers the arctic was best for color work the snow for B&W. The snow looked whiter because it hade more UV reflectivity. I have used both for color and B&W with out trouble.

I needed that a little.

Right since I shoot always in color and convert to BW, I think I will keep the artic plus I hate to bring that long roll back.

I'm going to have a play around with it and maybe add more color for seamless. I am tired to ironing out fabric backgrounds especially when they are 3m wide and 5m long.

thanks,

My day's of using seamless was during school. We had miles of it! But, take shoes off, don't crease or wrinkle, roll back up after use! Those were our rules...

We usually only had one (white) but one of our early assingnments was all three backgrounds. WHITE - GRAY - BLACK with a white background. Actually it's easy with lighting. Of course you know that photography is totally dominated by lighting, not just digital.

Gee, wish I'd had Digital and photoschool at the same time!

Maybe that's why the rolls are so long. Once they get too dirty, cut'n toss.

I suppose you could clean the shoes real good, use a hard surface underneath and perhaps a thick glass/acrylic on top as many studios do. Also, isn't that what the clone tool was invented for?

At least that's what I thought.

Babe,

I have not worked with this actual stuff but I have worked with something similar in the past. See this eBay item
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3806691414&category=3860

Looks like the guy routinely ships into other parts of Europe.

In the past the only issues I have had have been with how reflective the stuff is or can be. You can make various mixtures of cleaning chemicals up to remove the shine but they do have the unfortunate side effect of removing some of the wipe clean properties.

uhhh I am definitely up LATE at night or real early in the morning like 2am. People who attempt to make sense with me between 7 - 10am won't get far :-o Thereafter, I am all perky, the later into the evening, the perkier.

well that's what I thought too, cut and toss. But I am buying a shorter roll not widthwise but lengthwise. 2.7m x 11m instead of the usual 2.7m x 20m (or something like) for a couple of reasons. I like variety so it's cheaper and I can buy more colors. More importantly, it doesn't weigh a ton and I have to haul it up and down and my lightweight portable background stands aren'T going to buckle even if they don't fall apart.

Try some colored gels to change a white or grey background to any color you desire.

Here are some samples from Michael Ezra on photosig;

His background seems to be a middle gray so white would show the colors better depending on light strength.

I put tape masking tape on the bottoms of the shoes to protect the seamless. This is a good idea if the shoes need to go back to the store too.
A kneadable eraser is good for getting rid of the scuffmarks.
Black or dark gray will take colored gels better that white.

You can also put a layer of clean "masking tape" on the soles of the shoes. Really helps!

Babe, either should work fine. I really wouldn't sweat it that much. You will go to other backgrounds anyway after awhile. There are advantages to either.
