Err 99 Poll - Is this a common problem?

I've had my 300D for about 2 months.

With 891 images taken, I started randomly getting the Err 99 message.

I'm using a Canon 50mm f1.8 mkII lens with a Transcend 512 mg 45X compact flash card.

A forum search did not turn up a consistent answer.

How many others have this problem?

Thanks...alan

Yes, I had this Err 99 problem once after the changing lens and I found that it was my mistake that I did not turn the lens all the way until it clicked.

how often are you getting them?

I recieved random Err 99 messages as soon as I got my camera, anywhere up to 1 in 10 photos, occasionally more

Took it to canon, got repaired, but still got errors. Ended up getting camera replaced (had to quote consumer law for this to happen), haven't had a problem since

My understanding is, that if Err 99 occurrs any more than 0.1% of the time then you may have a problem

i heard sigma causes er99 but does it damage the cam too?

In 5000 shots, I've gotten 1 error 99 measage. I had changed lenses from the Sigma 70-300 APO to the kit lens. I immediatly removed the battery and replaced it. I sweated for a moment but the camera booted and I continued shooting w/ no problems. Since then, I've probably changed lenses 50 times w/ no repeat of the problem.

Now if I could just remove the dust from inside the viewfinder!

I have a little over 2500 shots on mine -

I use only Canon lenses currently, but have never seen an err99.

I understand that if you are getting these errors very often, that it could be a sign of a shutter problem.

If you are still covered by warranty - consider sending it in for service.

If not - I guess you can wait until it becomes frequent enough that you have to pay for repair.

That's a lot of 3's....

I always shoot in continuous mode and I suspect that is a factor.

From what I have learned, no, it only affects the non-canon lens. I just go back my Sigma 100-300 from Sigma. They had to upgrade the chip in the lens to correct for the ERR99 problem. So far the lens works great. Plus the lens was over 2 years old and Sigma did the upgrade free, minus my shipping fee to them. I had no compliant with the deal. loa..

When I first got the DRebel, I tried to use "Green" mode indoors in dim light. The flash popped-up, and I tried to hold it down and take the shot. The camera went to Err99 and locked-up. That was with firmware v1.0.2. I have not tried it since the upgrade to v1.1.1, nor do I plan to - it was obviously a silly thing to do. I have had no other Err99 in 2200 shots.

First 300D went over 20,000 pictures, then on one particular day started having Err99 which quickly turned into a broken shutter.

Second camera lasted about a week before getting Err99 which slowly got progressively worse over the second week.

My third camera has done fine for 36 hours.
