1st try new studio - can retouching Gods work their magic?

Mt quick attempt. I think less is better.

I've just setup a studio with Alien Bees, Digital Rebel shooting in
RAW, converting with C1.

In way over my head.

Trying to figure out Photoshop CS - but having trouble even with
getting Adobe Gamma Wizard to work (view Single Gamma slider
doesn't change anything when I move it).

I've been lurking a while - and am curious what you Gods of
retouching could do to color balance, curves, etc. to bring out
this quick shot of my wife.

(or in tif) http://s88775414.onlinehome.us/IMG_0020-2.tif

Also, curious if anyone knows of a good book on makeup for
photography.

My wife does nuclear medicine, not modelling, but she is going to
be my primary model (if I can talk her into it - and I think a few
photos that stand out will help get her interested)

Thanks.

Robert - yes, very nice. You changed the color balance, got rid of highlights, smoothed. (would that be about what you did - I'm trying to learn) She liked it.

Thanks

Dusty - very cool!

I think she is starting to look at this as being 'fun' - so I can actually talk her into getting fixed up for the next shots.

I keep telling her that 30 years from now, she'll never regret the time or money spent on pictures - even if it puts us in the poorhouse.

Any details on steps taken would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Boosted contrast and saturation. Soft focus blur applied then brought back the eyes and lips to 50%. Slight sharpen on hair edges. Applied border.. Voila one gorgeous model for you to enjoy :)

feivel - yes, that is much more effective.

All of these kind offerings have been very useful - and are pointing us in directions we would not have thought of.

Thanks.

Here are my 2 versions--the first one a adjusted the color balance, dodged and highlighted various areas and softened the skin. The second one I added a nik effex filter and thought it gave it a nice mysterious feeling. You have a wonderful subject for your experiments!

Ran my B&W cmyk action - no selective color. Hue/sat at colorize - hue - at 3? (to get sepia) sat at 3 almost all the way left and lightness at +1. Some dodging and burning on the face first. Some brush tool set at 'screen' for some lightening streaks in hair. Small s curve.

Too far perhaps. Actually only the eyebrows have been changed, rather than enhanced. I wouldn't presume to do this to a customer, but since this is "retouching" at dpr......

Vicki,

I'm just getting started. Your work looks closest to what I would like to be able to achieve. Would you mind sharing your workflow, step by step, or is it a closely guarded business secret;-)

I don't know if I can post a step by step, but I can give you a general idea - tomorrow (I'm already up much too late).
There is one condition though, you must learn how to spell my name :)
