A used UZI or a FZ2/ FZ10 ???

Hello,
While in Italy, I am planning on getting the Soligor DG-20 DA
Digital Autofocus Flash (TTL) for my c5050. Would have to wait on
a flash for the UZI....but sounds like a must for sure. Saw a few
more great shots with the UZI....
Note, the UZI has a different flash connection than the newer cameras. It has a 5 pin TTL connector, compared to the hot-shoe on the C-5050Z. All TTL flashes except for the Promaster, require you to buy a FL-CB01 cable and a FL-BK01 bracket (~ $100 combined) in order to convert the 5 pin TTL connector to a hot-shoe. The Promaster flash has different adaptors for the two connection types. In your case, a Soligor plus the FL-CB01/FL-BK01 would be roughly the same as a Promaster 5750DX plus both the 9901/1045 adaptors.

Thank you,

I did not realize I would need a converted, I like this one beacause of its compact size- more like an FL-20 with a bounce head. I will add this to the flash info I am taking with me.
Thanks again,
Kirsten

Hi Hollie,

I appreciate your enthusiam for your UZI's... however isn't it a
wee bit strong to say images produced by the FZ10 are very poor
compared to other cameras? ;) I thought I would share a
few... I hope you enjoy.

Images straight from the camera except for downsizing and some
cropping...

Hello,
Check out kirwin's FZ10 shots (post below). They are great!
Kirsten
Used Uzi's on Ebay are averaging over what a new FZ10 gets. I sold
my Uzi to help pay for the FZ10, which is a wonderful camera.
I have been using an FZ10 along side my C-750 for three weeks now
and I think the C-750 is a far better camera, these images taken
yesterday with the FZ10 lack detail

the rest of those available light shots he posted along with the last shot here.

Outstanding IMHO for a $500 cam & probably better than most of the $1000 higher MP prosumer models & another one of the reasons I'd choose the FZ10 if I needed a replacement for what I have. Needless to say I thought they were almost unbelievably clean but I do believe him :-}

Me & My UZI, Strollin Down The Avenue. Me & My UZI, Focusin On Somethin New. To 'UZe' Or Not To 'UZe'? That 'IS' The Question. EoneHunderedArEss/SeeTwentyOneHunderedYouZee/BeeCCC/SeeCCX

Yours are the best photos I've seen with a Panasonic Z series camera, they are very clean and good.

I just checked the Z10 camera database on PBASE searching for good Z10 photos and I'm still seeing mostly not sharp focus, too much black in the color photographs. I can hardly believe you didn't do post processing on your great photos, especially some noise reduction and sharpening. The other Z10 owners must be terrible photographers or there are not enough Z10s in the hands of good photographers like you.

I would have to try out a Z10 at this point to make sense of this contradiction.

Sorry for bashing your camera, you do know how to use it well.

I know Kirwin put up some dazzling shots from his Z10, so to compare...

Here is a link to some bird photos from UZI and 750 that I found on PBASE:

http://www.pbase.com/fritz_steinke/hummers&page=3

I did notice Kirwin has a Canon S400 like I do, a great camera for the purse and the reason I will probably buy a 750.

I also noticed that Kirwin's Nikon photos are very good quality, he could probably get great photos from a cardboard pin hole camera.

Yeah, Olympus really tried to lock people in by designing a propritary flash interface, and then overcharging for the interface cables and bracket. If they had just designed a FL-CB0x cable that went from 5 pin TTL connector to hot-shoe, but no, then people wouldn't piece the FL-BK01.

I've only had the 750 a couple of weeks, but I've been able to take some shots without a tripod. It works best on sunny days, but yesterday, I took some decent shots from a moving car on a cloudy day with some fog.

I do have trouble getting enough light indoors to get a good focus. Maybe your house is better lit! :)

I had been considering getting the FZ-10 after I got the 750, but when I take a look at the photos I'm getting, I decided to keep it!

Hello again,
One thing I forgot is the problem with "camera shake" as there is
no IS....
Do you have to use a tripod for most of your shots with the
c740/750 shots? Have you ever used an UZI?
Thanks,
Kirsten
Yes I had an UZI, and no I don't use a tripod for any of my shots
if I can take this at 10x then I don't think I need OIS

Just saw where you said you could get an UZi locally. (It would be tough getting one on eBay with the bidding wars going on!)

The IS and auto-focus assist on the UZi would be an advantage over the 750.

Hello,

No, I do not have enough good indoor lighting, so AF assist is really helpful. Although, when I borrowed a c740 (family owned) and had all the lights on in the family room, it did a pretty good job. But in the front room and dining room....?

My husband wants me to atleast look at the FZ10 and c7xxx's first, then I can go for the UZI.
Thanks for your experiences with your c750,
Kirsten

You might also want to consider the e100rs if you can find one in
your price range inspite of it's mere 1.5mp files. It has no right
being as good as it is even without the speed it has.
But that's a very biased oppinion since I own both....

15 frames per second! (Though I rarley go past 7.5, as it gives you too much to sift through.) I've shot close to 20,000 frames with mine, doing newspaper sports work and general photography and I've had some good prints at 8x10.

With Fl-40 flash, you can get 3 flashed shots in a second. Amazing!

It is superb as a hand-held in low light for concerts, etc.

With the 10x zoom, the 1.5Mp can be better than a typical 3x zoom on a 3-4Mp camera. It does have no right being so good at 1.5 Mp — but that's because it is probably the world's best-ever 1.5 Mp camera.

Hi Waynecam,

I've only had the cam for a month now. So I honestly can't give you an answer based on my past experience. From what I have seen on the Panny forum... IS seems to work well for stationary action shots. ie (person swinging ball bat, golfer, etc...) The cam does offer a mode for panning subjects in a horizonatal plane. I have only tried this once on a subject at an airshow and it works but takes practice. The plane was in focus but the background was blurred to create the effect of motion. I wish I would have experimented with this feature more at the airshow... oh well there's always next time.

There is also a theory floating about if the shutter speed is fast (ie 1/500) due to good sunlight... you're better to shut off image stabilisation to capture erractically moving subjects. Don't know if it's true, but will definitely experiment. It does make sense though because IS would be trying to compensate for the motion of the camera following a subject causing a slightly soft image. I hope this helps answers your question.

Hi Hollie,

Thanks for your kind words... but there is no way I'm going to try a pinhole camera! ;) I very much agree with you on the s400... it's a wonderful jewel to carry for unexpected opportuniteis.

The FZ10 is not perfect, but have found with a lot of experimenting... can reward with beautiful images straight from the camera. Bottom line is everyone has different needs for taking pictures. And if a person is lucky enough to find a camera that they really enjoy (no matter the brand)... the more likely the camera will be used to create beautiful images. Thanks for sharing images from other cameras and photographers... they are indeed very beautiful.

Hi 'UZ'pShoot'ERS'

Thanks for your kind words. I am going to shoot more ISO 400 images soon... I want to see how else this cam can surprise me. Just so you know... you can get really noisey images with this cam if the subject is not exposed properly... but if your willing to work with the cam... it can reward with the type of images you have seen.

I own the UZI, and love it. I have beautiful 8x10 inch prints on my wall from the 2MP camera that could.

IS is crucial, I would not buy a long zoom without it. From the reviews I've read about people who own both, the UZ is much better in image quality than the Panasonic cameras. In addition you get full manual controls, Aperture, and Shutter speed Priority. The FZ10 I think has this, but it's also much larger.

I don't think there is an UZI replacement at this point. I considered the new 3mp canon, but ruled it out after I did some research (can't remember what it was exactly). My next step is probably a DSLR very soon at which point I might (just might) sell my UZ if I can get myself to do so.
Hei,
I want Zooooom.......and do not have a lot of money...so, knowing
this helpful Oly forum, I will ask those who love their UZI's for
there expert opinions!
So, is there any other 10x (or more) IS digicam out there that is
as wonderful as your UZI's?
Thanks for your help,
Kirsten
