Funny story. It's happened to you too!

Heheh... oh, yes. I did enjoy. :-)

Not in a gleeful gloating sort of way, though. But it's simply nice to get the recognition after all this time. After all, some of us REALLY DO know what we're doing where this medium is concerned. Being acknowledged now for the work, and NOT the medium, is fantastic.
I could see the look of embarassment on her face immediately. I
thanked her for noticing that in MY images, there were NO
artifacts, halos, digital manipulation :-)

End of story, Uly.

Enjoy? :-)

well NOT THAT but my dad goes to the camera shops all over the place. You know how stuck up some are on sonys. Well one spotted a wallet of a portrait of my grandkid. Said "wow that's a nice portrait where did you have it done?" Oh my father said my daughter did that of our grandbaby. REALLY? wow that is nice what type camera? Sony digital. SHOCK lol mumble wow I'm impressed wouldn't of known. :) Then once I had sent that eve pic to a friend of mine. He prints out all my pics I send like that himself. It was on his desk. Someone came to put in new tub and fixtures spotted it. He LOVED IT. Wanted it so bad kept offering money to him for it lol. But it was a NO SELL because he wouldn't it was HIS lol. Those moments make one sooooooooooooooo happy hehe.

But that is such a compliment I think. A lot out there think Sony can't do chit, :) You go guy!!!

Hey Ulysses, that's a great story! Funny.

I had a similar encounter when I was joint-judging with another
photo society member last year when the judge didn't show. I had
some prints entered, so I didn't say much when we got to them, and
the judge gave one of them third place. It was a nice 11x14 print,
and she commented after I told her it was mine - "I didn't know you
shot medium format!"

This was the print...

Funny story: We had a client over, and they were looking at some of
my pictures, particularly the large prints. He asked, "So have you
ever considered shooting with digital?"

I started laughing (not disrespectfully so, of course!). hahahah...

I told him, "I don't make a point of mentioning it, but I shoot
ONLY digital." His jaw dropped as he said, "Really??" He leaned in
to look even closer to look at the pictures.

It was as if he thought that if looked hard enough, he'd be able to
divine some sort of difference between his ideas of what film
looked like versus his idea of what digital would look like.

I found this both humorous as well as gratifying. :-)

You ever have an experience like this

every once in a while i count all the pics i have ever taken digitally and figure the cost of film and developing if i had done that, and show my wife to justify my "expensive" toy.

they pay for themselves quick! and the film way i'd still only have little 3x5s ( thats the price figuring i'm doing, walmart devolpment).
yee haw!

a lot of people may seem like they're egotists and they're above digital but its (mostly) probably genuine feelings bout digital that they developed 3 years ago when digital really started rolling bu still wasn't quite that good. so their views are dated. 3 years is a heartbeat and they honestly don't know how much digital has advanced. these revelations (the stories ya all are telling) will keep happening and people will sooner than later realize film is not king of the hill, i would venture to say its rolling down the side and gaining speed! he he.

It's either a lack of education in most instances, along with a lack of current information that keeps them sort of stuck in that position.

but the bottom line is, they are too lazy, they don't care and they still sell so why should they?

I couldnt' even get a sample print out on one of the printers when I was looking to buy something. That sucks!

Indeed. I've seen the opposite situation though. My SO's father is a professional photographer and still uses a Nikon FM2 daily. When we go look at art galleries or photo shows he can consistently tell whether a photo is digital or film. It's sometimes funny to hear him say, "yes, I know this is digital." :)

But he doesn't hold the film is better than digital attitude though. It's just that he's been using manual camera for years. But he's bought a computer last year and I'm sure he will be getting a digital camera soon. :P

Yes, I have this happen all the time. My favorite one was from the Costco camera counter assistant. They had installed their "print digital media" station about a month before. I went there to print some pictures off and then asked the girl if she preferred developing the digital prints or 35mm prints. She emfatically said the 35mm. "Digital prints aren't very good and I have never seen any printed yet that are even close to the 35mm." I smiled and said, "I think they have come a long way." She just denied it and said they can't ever be better than 35mm.

I returned to pick them up an hour later; and she just smiled at me and said, "I stand corrected." And that was it. I'm glad I could help.
Take Care Ulysses and good luck on the plumbing project!

It's going to be interesting to see the digital industry progress. We're rapidly approaching the point where it really doesn't matter whether the picture was digitally generated or whether it was captured via analog emulsions.

I'd be interested in hearing how he's getting along in three to five years.

Thanks. Now just to be sure we are on the same Wavelength...Is this about what you end up with from 717 high res jpg for 11x14. This would be what I send in for a print.

Using the PS Crop tool gotta crop at least a little if sizing for
11x14), I size to 11x14 but do NOT tell it what resolution. I let
the lab take care of that (in fact, that is what they request that
I do). I regularly get very high quality prints even in LARGE sizes
--- 11x14 all the way up to 24x30 so far.
Exactly what do you do getting your files ready for an 11x14 print?
And I have had several people badmouth digital as well!
