Taken yesterday. I thought I'd have a stab at the water droplet thing. It didn't quite work out as I intended but I was pleased with the result nonetheless. All I did in Photoshop was to adjust levels and applied USM. The heart I printed out on to a sheet of A4 and placed under a glass coffee table. I then sprayed water onto the glass and shot from above with a +4 filter attached to the camera. I used a spotlight with a daylight simulation bulb to light the drops and heart.

When I first looked at it, I thought this was a glass of water sitting on the glass table. But, if (as you say) the water droplets are all on a flat surface, why are the smaller ones out of focus? Is the DOF SO shallow that just the difference in droplet size puts the smaller ones OOF? Still seems odd, given that the edges of the larger droplets aren't as OOF as the smaller ones. Hmm.

Hmm.
DOF with this setup was a problem as I had a +4 filter on as well which makes it shallower. Also I expext the camera wasn't perpendicular to the drops as it was handheld and the slightest movement changed which drops were in focus and which weren't. I tried using my tripod which adjusts for overhead shots but due to time contraints I was unable to set it to the correct height for focus quickly enough so went for it handheld instead.

Thanks for your comments.

Hi Britishbeef,

The hearts had both my wife and I gazing with upmost enjoyment.

Looking through your galleries all I can say is that you have quite
a future in photography. Is this your day job or just a hobby?

Great work

Thanks very much for your kind comments storksb.

I would love it to be my job but unfortunately it isn't. I would love to go pro but it seems to be a very hard field to get into and I don't have a good enough camera and equipment.....yet. One day........

Regards,

Geoff.

Your galleries almost make me want me to lay down my camera and just say forget it, no contest. You have a natural talent that surpasses that of the average photographer. Please post your pictures more frequently and thanks for sharing.
