More Chicago at Nite... F828 O.T.J. (on the job)

I like the spontenaity and colors. I am not big fan of leaning pictures though. Occasionally but I think you over did it. Distracting.
Your choice of subjects looks like it fits the events. Nice overall
Mel
There are some good shots, some not so good... as it goes in the
battle zone! Comments please... (I have already noticed that most
shots have an obvious leaning to the right) Bonus question... can
anyone point out the "famous" Latino singer in this batch?

... looked at your pics and now I have a crick in my neck and almost fell out of my chair about 20 times leaning to the right tying to see the subjects.

;-) LOL. But other than that, enjoyed seeing the pics. Lots of really cut ladies up there in Chi-town I'd say ... I could come up an help ya out on your shoots if you need an assistant. hehehehehehe.

I almose fell out of my chair laughing at your post, because it is so true! The editor likes odd angle shots... but you are right, I over did it a bit.... thanks a lot for the comments!!

Yes Mel, I over did it... I didn't realize is until I saw the photos in the gallery. I was tempted to do a few Photoshop flips and flops.... and I still might... thanks for the comments!!

some cool shots there

you know i like odd angles ;) but this is too many! just my opinion tho, your mileage may vary etc etc

thanks for sharing

I went a bit overboard with the technique, next time I will soften it a little. Also, next time I will try some slow sync on the flash and add manual zoom to that as well.... maybe. Have you tried this?

Did anyone figure out who the Latino singer was (I don't know)?

Also, are you using just the onboard flash, or are you using an external flash? In some pictures, the flash is a bit harsh, and I'd suggest trying a diffuser or bouncing the flash, if possible. If you could take more candid pics to mix in with the posed pics, it might be more evocative of the party atmosphere, but I don't know if your editor wants you to just do posed shots.

Pretty good pictures, and yes, like others in this thread, my neck was getting a bit cramped from the different angles, but it's no biggie. :D

What was the event at the Field Museum?

To tell you the truth, I don't remember the Latino singers name... nice guy though.

I'm using an F32X Sony with a Lumquist Pocket bounce and the Sony flash diffuser, what I might to is take the card out of the bounce and weaken the intensity... do you think this will work? Also, I have learned my 'lesson' about too many angeled shots... thanks!

Jezlen... thanks so much for your feed-back!!

Do you have the flash tilted with the Pocket Bounce, or do you have the flash aimed straight up? I have the Sunpak 383, and sometimes when I use the Pocket Bounce, I can get a good diffused light if my flash is angled down at around 70 degrees instead of at full 90 degrees (but don't hold me to that; I am trying to remember how I used it most). I am not sure how different the F32X is in that respect.

However, I think that if you could at least decrease the intensity a little bit (without changing the angle of how your flash is tilted), you could experiment a bit with that. Perhaps you could set up some stuffed animal or other subject in a room with similar lighting to the places you usually take pictures so that you can practice with the flash intensity and angle. It would take the pressure off of trying to experiment while you're out shooting at your venues. I know I would get flustered when taking pictures at the auto show if I'm trying to fiddle with the flash to get the right lighting.

:) Heh heh, sorry if I was beating a dead horse. :D

No problem! I'm still quite the beginner at external flash photography, so I don't know how helpful my suggestions are. :)

Soo if the wide end is 28MM on the 828 and you take it on a tilt... does that mean he got more like 24MM or so??? LOL

I think he was just trying to maximize the "Wide Angle" aspect of the lens!!!

Why do you think Television Manufactures report the screen size measured on the Diagonal... CAUSE IT IS BIGGER!!!

Seriously though... Nice Chi-Town Night Life pics. Could you now take a bunch leaned the other way... so my neck can get a proper work out??? :)

Raymond... it is in the works provided that I shoot again this next weekend! :) Thanks for you comments.... 24mm? Hummmmm.... I like that! Now that 'subject matter' thing is another I have to work on.... hehe!!
