When I got my S230, I made sure that "file number reset" was set to "off". In other words, the file number of each picture is NOT reset every time I download images off the camera. The net result is that I have a running total number of pictures ever taken with the camera. Mine is up to about 7500.

What's the highest number of pictures people here have taken with their Canon digital cameras? Has anyone "turned over" past the 10,000 mark?

How does one read the Odometer? It seems my new S400 started at 1000 and not 0. Also The camera seems to be putting folders on the CF card. 110 Canon - 111 Cannon - 112 Canon etc. What is the sequence and why? Then there is the CANONMSC folder that has the .CTG files in it. What are these?

Thanks,

Rich

Yup. Bought an A20 in June 2001 and clocked over 10,000 Christmas 2003. It's now at about 11,500 and has just started giving us problems :-(

Looks like time for a replacement...

I have an S400 which is at IMG_3459

I have a G3 which is at IMG_3797

How do you translate these into the amount of pics taken? I remember a similar post eons ago, but forgot how to do the math?

I have over 24,000 on my S400.
Oh my! I have somewhere over 3,000 and I was worried about wearing mine out!!!?!?! Maybe I've just got it broken in!

No translation necessary -- unless you reset the counter at some point, you've taken 3,459 pictures with the S400 and 3,797 pictures with your G3.

I have never reset the counter, but I can guarantee that your count is not correct, that's why I asked. I would estimate in the tens of thousands for my G3. I currently have over 10,000 saved images since April, so there must be more to the math?

It's a 4-digit counter, so 3459 could be 13,459; or 23,459 as well. Of course, if you switch the flash card(s) back and forth between cameras, they all bets are off. It seems insertions take the higher of the current counter, or the highest numbered picture on the flash card.

Yes, this makes more sense......I'm thinking about 23,000-33,000 on my G3. I've never swapped cards, as my G3 has a Type II card and my S400 is Type I.
