Hi boutchou,

first get the 70-200, with that lens and your D100 you're ready to go.

After many great pictures and a long time saving another sum of money, het the D2h, or the D2x or the D200, which might be available than also.

D70 suits you better. It has higher resolotion than D2H. D70 has moire but in your application you will be probably shooting 1/40sec to 1/60sec handheld, and hardly anyone has such steady hands too get moire at this shutter speed handheld so D70 can be called a high-resoluton moire-free camera for your application.

First of all ignore comments about the D70 from ANY ONE who does not own one. Which is 99% of the people posting comments like "D70 has moire but.."

If I were in your shoes I would skip the D2H and for the same money you could get the 70-20 2.8 (which is a great piece of glass) AND the D70. This way you get every thing you need, a backup body and a shape piece of glass.

When trying to make decisions like this I often pretend I have $1 and the game is to spend that dollar where it will make the biggest difference in your business or in this case the quality of your images. I think my recommendation meets that criteria.

By way I use to be a wedding photographer and having that second body would be a smart move for a number of reasons.

My .02 for what is worth.

For candids, a D1H or D2H are fine at a wedding. These type of images are rarely printed large and might need a faster reacting camera due to the nature of weddings. For group shots and some setups, I'd use a higher resolution camera.

Ch, based on you using a 70-300 now, I'd get the 70-200 as long as you know what it's like to carry that lens. It is much longer, fatter and heavier than the 70-300 but it also can give you stunning portraits because of the aperture.

Is that like a person that doesn't own a D2H recommending a higher mp camera? I agree the D2H is expensive and if you've used one you'd know why. Obviously, if ch could afford both, the D2H and the 70-200 should be gotten. But unless ch has an assistant, the amount of equipment may become just as much of a problem as the lack of equipment.

Btw, the D100 is too soft, the D70 has moire, the D2H has too much noise... (I could go on about all of them.) :)

Hi Guys,

I got a lot of info from you the D70 was almost my choice plus the 70-200 VR but the moire I just saw on the house roof from somemone who just bought it makes me step backward..I am just reluctant for the D2H with only 4 Mega when we are aleready at 11 or more I think it will be soon obsolete if I may say so.The 70 - 200 VR is definitely a must ..I still cannot make up my mind..

IMO, for your needs you don't need the D2H, which is designed for PJs, and sports photograhpers who need speed over resolution. The D100 coupled with the 70-200 is great--a nice compromise between speed and resolution. Although for weddings, I would rather have the 85 f1.4 and the 17-35, but that's just me...

The D70 definetly sounds like a nice camera, but it is not a big enough leap in technology for me to buy into it...yet.

If I were you, I would invest in good quality lens!! For weddings, the 70-200 2.8 VR vs the 70-300 4.5 lens will make a much bigger difference in quality compared to a D100 vs. D70/D2h.

Long story short....Buy the lens!!!

Ignore the resolution, I have the D100 and the D2H, the focusing speed and buffer is a must for wedding shots, the D2H, takes a better more detailed capture than my D100, also, for those shoots that you cannot afford to miss, its the D2H, aL the way.

The D2H will help you to get so many of those unforgettable candid shots at weddings, receptions, parties, events, etc. You might even be able to sell a lucky shot to a tabloid and make enough money to buy the 70-200VR! Maybe Paris Hilton with Bill Clinton? Sweet!

Having tested the D2H I feel that this is one camera that would never miss a shot! In terms of Focusing, Exposure and Flash it's peerless. Handling is quick as lightning too. You just know where every setting control is instinctively. Sometimes I only wish that such a fine camera could capture imore than 4MP. A bit of a shame really. Get the D2H anyway and sell your 75-300 and 24-85 and buy the VR.

I have all three - the D100, D2H and 70-200VR.

What will give you the most improvement in your images? The 70-200/2.8.

The D2H is a very specialized camera. It is optimized for speed-driven, high daily use applications like full-time PJs and sports guys. It is rugged and heavy. When used as a PJ camera, it's awesome. But weddings aren't really what the D2H was designed to do. Sure it'll do a great job, but it will be overkill. Your D100 is more than adequate for wedding duties.

The 70-200/2.8 on the other hand is a gorgeous piece of glass. Hang that sucker on the end of ANY Nikon body and you're gonna say "Wow!". The images you get from it are nothing short of outstanding.

Stick with your D100 for now, buy the 70-200/2.8 and save your pennies for a D70 or another D100 as a backup.

I think he means shooting wedding photo's outside ! Dont think he's gonna shoot with 70-200 inside. So if i could choose. I chose the lens. And wait and save the rest of the money and maybe some extra for the successor of the D100. (d200 maybe)

makes you take better pictures, The camera is just so well balanced and set up, forget the pixel count, the D2h is just an amazing camera.

I think I'd be more concerned about the slow glass in the moderately wide to short telephoto range, which is where 70 percent of your wedding images will be taken.

You might want to dump all those lenses and get a 28-70 or, if Nikon ever releases it, the 18-55 f/2.8 DX. This would be a great workhorse lens for weddings.

I'd go with the D2H and D100 backup. The 70-200 is a great lens and my second must used lens at the wedding, but the 28-70 is number one.

Another issue you must consider are flashes. You need at least two. The D2H has I-ttl, which is far superior to the d-ttl of the D100. Figure at least $700 of your budget for the flashes (SB800s).

And don't forget education. It's most important in doing wedding photography.

Many valid arguments here. Good points all...

I'd suggest you go to the local camera shop, pick up a D2H, mount the 70-200mm on it and imagine yourself carrying that for 2-3 hours of uninterrupted bliss. Its a heavy rig!

That being said, you'd be extremely pleased with your results. Somebody mentioned a flash budget - do that too- you'll be amazed at how well the sb800's work with the D2H.
