NYC antiwar march... 10D and 20mm f/2.8 (mostly)

Nice job of embedded reporting. It is great to see genuine concern other than hawks and oil men keeping their finger on the panic button in order to get fat $$ by lying that the war is about 9/11 or weapons of mass distruction. As Americans it is our duty to demonstrate and to question at leaast according to Teddy Rosevelt. It is equally our duty to record and send to press history. Which brings us back to photography.

I have the Sigma 20mm and find it great when you have to get wide. The arrest shot is nice but the DOF is short. Did you have to crank up the shutter speed to freeze the action?

These are great pictures and I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiments of the protest. But why was Bloomberg there? SInce when did he do a positive thing for the city? I guess if he feels the sentiment of NYC is anti-war, and he's looking for votes, then he's more intelligent than I thought...

Hmmm....let me ake sure my message is clear..

Having lived in NYC most of my life....living now in NJ

Working in NYC...

Having lost family and friends as a result of 9-11..

Being a Spaniard by ancestry...

1) I SUPPORT the war in Iraq 1000%..(we should have finished it in 91/92)

2) I SUPPORT the war on terror 1000000%.....get all of them with extreme predjudice..either with us or against us....

3) I SUPPORT any incursion, anywhere on the face of the globe that will benefit the USA and it's Allies and all who want freedom from oppression.

4) I am ashamed of my Spanish heritage. There was once a time when they were a strong willed people with strong values..not anymore.

Gee I guess that is clear enough... ;^ )

It is amazing to think that people forget that their very right to protest and to question this or, any government. Is the direct result of battling foreign influence and those that would try to destroy us. Also that we sleep well and safe at night in our beds, is the direct result of good men ready to wage war and violence upon the enemy on our behalf.

Photography input....kewl pic of bloomey who looks annoyed...

So you agree with these protesters at the march yesterday?

What these two "Patriotic" Americans' sign says:

Agree with you.

I'm from the UK, we have not had any atrocities like NYC or Spain yet (although we had the IRA for 25 years or so).

I'm amazed that there can even BE an 'anti-war' protest in NYC, have they forgotten what happened in 2001?

And maybe someone will tell them the actual war in Iraq is finished.

Now, the efforts are on trying to create a democracy in Iraq, another great western ideal. Maybe the protesters would prefer to live under a dictator.

'The belief that something is NOT impossible is the absolute essence of discovery'

What I wholeheartedly agree with is the overall sentiment of the protests:

1) That the war in Iraq, which is daily taking the lives of a disproportionate number of poor, underpriveliged American youth, who so often signed up for service because their choices after high school were limited.

2) That the U.S. war in Iraq is intensifying starvation, unrest, violence, and death among Iraqi civilians.

3) That there was absolutely NO provocation or attack from this country against the United States.

4) That the CIA trained and armed Saddam Hussein for years. In fact they installed him after they directed the overthrow of a left-based coalition government in Iraq in the mid-70's.

5) That even the CIA said there was no evidence of a link to 9-11 from Iraq, yet Saudi Arabia which we have not bombed, was home to the majority of the hijackers.

6) That there are NO weapons of mass destruction, no chemical weapons, (wouldn't you think they would have used them when the U.S. attacked? I mean what were they waiting for???)

7) That Bush, Chaney, Exxon, etc., stand to reap billions from the occupation of Iraq.

8) That as an American we need to show the world that many, if not most of us, surely do have moral integrity; that we will stand up to our government when our government is WRONG!

9) And that peace is indeed patriotic.
These are great pictures and I wholeheartedly agree with the

Do have information that Saddam was involved in 9-11? If so then please share all, me and the rest of the world would love to see it.
2) I SUPPORT the war on terror 1000000%.....get all of them with

War on terrorism, or war with Iraq? Two different things right? After all there were NO TERRORISTS in Iraq before the war.
3) I SUPPORT any incursion, anywhere on the face of the globe that
will benefit the USA and it's Allies and all who want freedom from
oppression.
So its ok to force a country to adopt democracy, even if they don't all want it? So I guess we should have invaded the USSR and forced democracy on them also, instead of letting them do it on their own?
4) I am ashamed of my Spanish heritage. There was once a time

I am sure they are ashamed of you, considering 90% of Spaniards voted against the illegal invasion of Iraq and their elected official went AGAINST his own peoples wishes, he would have been voted out of power even if no bombs went off on M-11. Thats democracy in action in case you forgot what you were talking about.
Gee I guess that is clear enough... ;^ )
I don't think you can see very clearly, your judgement has been clouded by the atrocity of 9-11 to hate people and countries that have nothing to do with terrorism.
It is amazing to think that people forget that their very right to
protest and to question this or, any government. Is the direct
result of battling foreign influence and those that would try to

You're not confusing Bin Laden with Saddam again are you? After all Saddam was a dictator in a broken down poor third world country, not a terrorist who plotted the 9-11 and M-11 attacks.
so that we sleep well and safe at night in our beds,
is the direct result of good men ready to wage war and violence
upon the enemy on our behalf.
Funny, the majority of the world opinion consider the war in Iraq to have made MORE terrorists, not less, but lets not get things confusing, I wouldn't want to corrupt your hate for countries and people that have nothing to do with your loss.

How profoundly sad that those poor young men in the picture have
been duped by this lie. I only pray they don't end up paying for
their gullibility with their lives.
I promise you that the men and women that serve the United States in its armed forces are not as dumb as you seem to believe. I have relatives that are serving in Iraq that volunteered for service not because of the benefits of paying for college, etc. but because it was their choice to serve their country. It might make you feel good to criticize the results of their service but they are proud to have liberated 25 million people from the hellish grip of a dictator. I would rather these sorts of people in my company than the loose rabble I observed and photographed in the streets of NYC protesting the liberation of the Iraqi people. The people in the streets Saturday carried signs praising dictators (Castro, Chavez & Jung) and the suicide bombings of Jews. I am sure a few of those marching had good intentions but the rest were tired old anti-American socialists and communists.

I promise you that the men and women that serve the United States
in its armed forces are not as dumb as you seem to believe.
I am sure some of them aren't, after all the military has a lot of complicated technical hardware these days.
I have
relatives that are serving in Iraq that volunteered for service not
because of the benefits of paying for college, etc. but because it
was their choice to serve their country.
Good for them, but my problem is not with the military, its the sleezy polititians who decide who the "enemy" is.
It might make you feel
good to criticize the results of their service but they are proud
to have liberated 25 million people from the hellish grip of a
dictator.
I am sure they are, but it is still interfering with a sovereign nation. When Stalin was killing millions of his own people, did we invade the USSR? Sometimes its better to let things work themselves out and not interfere.
I would rather these sorts of people in my company than
the loose rabble I observed and photographed in the streets of NYC
protesting the liberation of the Iraqi people.
Thats not true, I am sure they weren't protesting the liberation of Iraq, they were protesting the lies that the war was sold to us on. IE WMD, threat to our country and lives etc etc, all of which was shown to be false.
The people in the
streets Saturday carried signs praising dictators (Castro, Chavez &
Jung) and the suicide bombings of Jews.
I don't condone that at all, but I can I see some of your pictures showing this?
I am sure a few of those
marching had good intentions but the rest were tired old
anti-American socialists and communists.
Why is a socialist anti-American? There are plenty of people with a "socialist" attitude that are proud Americans and would defend their country if it was under threat.
