For those who still don't believe in RAW...

I recently started using RAW and I KNOW what it can do for ME. If
others refuse to realize the value of it, or have slower computers
that would make it a nightmare to work with, or can't afford the
extra CF cards, or are such awesome photogs that they are dead on
with exposures and such on every shot they take, then it's silly to
even debate it. I know what works for ME and I know that I've
really improved my work with RAW and nothing could ever convince me
to go back to jpg. If everyone had the same needs there'd only be
one camera on the market and there wouldn't be any adjustments on
the camera!

Be thankful you don't have an SD9 or SD10 you only get RAW at least with Cnaon you get a choice to argue over.

Don't use a hard drive for your only backup. The first time you drop it everything will be lost. :( You need DVD's also. I use both an external hare drive and a DVD burner.

Rich
I have enjoyed watching the prices come down on DVD drives. I am
thinking of buying an external hard drive to use instead. It
sounds interesting to just plug it in every so often to backup my
photos versus keeping a bunch of disks around.

Brian
Rich
It's a good thing hard drive and optical media are cheap, right? ;-))

Brian
How big is the RAW file for a 10D ?

Hey Zack,

When you shot this waterfall comparison do you remember how you had the camera set up?

Now that your shooting in RAW mode are you shooting most of your shots purely in an auto mode?
Jack
I've been following these forums for a while, and recently made the
switch over to shooting in RAW mode. I am extremely satisfied with
the results. The ability to tweak exposure and select white balance
out-of-camera makes a world of difference. Post processing for
saturation and sharpening always yields better results than what
comes straight from the camera.
Below is an example of just how much a difference shooting RAW and
doing a little post-processing work can make.

Check out Lonnit's web site and exif data from some of his images..

His images are good with regards to content and composure but he has many images with blown whites and some with questionable high ISO's and extremely fast shutter speeds.

Overall he does an admirable job but from my perspective he's simply no expert .His opinion is but one.

If it is not physically possible for some to use RAW because of the above, I don't see any reason to harp on them to try to convince them of a system that is not possible for them to use no matter how much they would like to. I feel it would only serve to make them feel badly about what they are lucky enough to have. Someone recently criticized people for using less than L lenses when the fact is not everyone can afford L lenses. One must work iwth what is within their budgetary constraints and they don't deserve to be condemned for it.
