I am having difficulty in getting my prinst to be as bright and colorful as on my monitor. The print is always darker, whites not as white, blues not as blue, and generally just a darker print. I have calibrated monitor with SpyderPro, have used Canon generic profile for printer, and use Qimage for printing. When I lighten with PSE2, the print washes out. Using Kodak Premium Picture Paper. Any suggestions on how to get print as colorful and light as monitor image would be appreciated.

Have you tried any other paper like Canon or Epson? Kodak papers usually don't work very well with the Canon i-series printers.

Follow these steps and good prints are guaranteed:

1. Set a luminance value of not more than 85 cdm while profiling your monitor. If your monitor is too bright to start with your prints will invariably turn out too dark. Higher values, say above 95, will also fry your CRT and your eyeballs.

2. Get a (GOOD) profile for your printer (bin the Canon generic one), from someone like Cathy Stratton or Andrew Rodney of DigitalDog. Do a websearch for details.
3. Use only the best Canon paper (Photo Paper Pro).

Everything else is easy.

Enjoy your prints!
