The Death Of The Canon 1Ds

yeah... while under charge...
Looks like the 1DsII will have to hit the market earlier and/or
prices of the 1Ds will have to be lowered significantly.
Sorry but there's now rush for Canon to release the 1Ds mkII if the only competitor is this Kodak.
Though maybe 1Ds' price will drop further... good, twice good!!
It's such a magnificent camera that more photographers should be able to buy it.

But dead ?... you clearly don't know what you are saying, joking apart...

Ciao :-)

Hi,

But, then, I've had many a Kodak DSLR. I know exactly what I'm getting into. The 1Ds is more versatile than the SLR/c, but I'll be coupling it with a 1D, so they will complement each other nicely.

I don't expect the SLR/c to drive the 1Ds price down to $5k. I think that will have to wait for the 1Ds-II. Now, that puppy will be quite an improvement, I expect. However, I can do well with the SLR/c, and so that is the way I will go.

I've almost bought a 14n more than once. It has been close. Now, it's a lot easier. The Nikon parts in the 14n and SLR/n are not compatible with my older Nikon manual focus lenses (I have no AF ones). The SLR/c will be quite compatible with my Canon USM lenses, so that problem is no more. ;)

It's only a couple of months away. ;)

I hereby would like to announce that Canon's flagship dSLR product
just died in a frontal collition with Kodak DCS Pro SLR/c.

1Ds is still CANON'S flagship product. The SLR/c and SLR/n are KODAK'S flagship product. Canon does not make the SLR/c.

Joo
LOL ....if you think that ...wait until you see the files ...
Read again what I said: "...I hereby would like to announce that

I didn't say it's the better camera or anything. But a Kodak camera
being the digital EF body with the highest resolution is a good
joke!

  • Maybe one day I'll take a decent picture. In the meantime, I'll blame the equipment. :)

Calling it the death of the 1Ds and a marketing disaster is
only in YOUR mind.
Yes, it's an optinion.
I'm glad to hear you can recognize the difference between the thoughts and priorities in your head, and objective reality outside your head. This is a big step!!
But the 1Ds as Canon's flagship product is dead, that's a fact.
The above is a big step, but one of your next projects should be to come to terms with the meaning of the word "fact."

this is what free enterprise is all about. My FF dream is getting closer by the day and priced much less than 8,000 too !

I would take the 1Ds any day.

The arrogance of some people here is pretty amusing; I didn't expect such a dose of "user price" in a forum that is about professional cameras.

Anyway... ...below the preview of somebody who has been shooting with the 1Ds as well as the new Kodak...

http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/cameras/Kodak%20ProSLR-mini-review.shtml

Key statements (quotes from abiove link):

"I am really impressed. The Kodak Pro SLR/n, though appearing to be a very similar camera to its predecessor is cut from a different cloth. Naturally a brief first-look like this can only tell us a little about a major new camera, but the little that I've seen has left a very positive impression."

"The Pro SLR/n retails for approximately U.S. $5,000."

I would be very afraid of compatibility issues (current and futures). To compensate for this, the camera would need an extremly attractive price and/or features (especially image quality) which would really make a difference. To be honest, I doubt that the Kodak could fulfill my requirements.

...of course, but the 1Ds Canon's flagship product is definitly dead and the introduction of this camera will benefit Canon users at least indirectly, even if they don't buy the Kodak. And I'm dead serious about that...

I'll keep my sleeping? 1Ds princess rather than switch to that toad thank you.

there is a big difference between a Eos-1Ds and a Kodak(Sigma) body, and still we have to see how the new Kodak CMOS act (old Pro 14 wasn't such a 1Ds killer!)

I think they really don't need a 1Ds mark II

indeed, if the 1Ds gets a little bit cheaper, that is good for us

best regards

I just looked at the samples, the 14n 800 iso is unusable, the 400 iso is a joke, the 250 iso looks to be suffering some image degredation (mentioned in text) 160 looks passable - but its a tiny pic. They did'nt compare the 1Ds against the 14n (new) this time, I suspect some political reasoning here. I dont think Canon are loosing any sleep.....
