oh no, i went to b & h today

Hey there, ozzie! :)
you're gonna find more and more uses for your DR and find yourself
using the good 'ol 828 less and less. its a dominoe effect and it
does happen so be prepared..... :^p
I tried to get him to slow down. He wouldn't listen. :-)
I think its pretty cool that here I just crossed the line from DSLR
land to point-n-shoot land and you did just the opposite.
Heheh... "digicam" land is more like it.

I know you may have mentioned it before, but what brought you back? And which camera?

and only regret not joining sooner. the control you get with interchangeable lenses is superb. and the CMOS sensor can produce such noiseless and creamy images, and it also gives you a lot of post-processing latitude.

looking forward to seeing your pics with your new toy. after all, as you wrote in response to my post a few weeks ago, it's about the pictures, not the camera.

what lenses did you get? (apologies for not reading through the previous posts)

Heheh.. I'm too embarrassed to list the ones I have bought. People might take me for a fool.

I'm so glad I'm switching away from dslr. Digicams are much cheaper. LOL!

Howdy! :)

What brought me back to "digicam" land? Well, I got to some serious thinking about what I was doing (more like what I wasnt doing) with my $4500+ DSLR setup and how much of a waste of money it was having that kind of equipment just to take pics of my items that I sell on ebay from time to time.

So I decided to sell everything: 10D, 24-70L f2.8, 100-400L IS and a Speedlite 420EX flash. I got like 90% of what I had invested in my DSLR setup so needless to say I was happy. And I was also amazed at how fast everything sold (within a 24 hour period).

As for what I replaced my DSLR with? Initially it was an F717 but I just recently came into an 828 for something like $550 through some connections I have through Comp USA (no, the camera isnt hot. just in case anyone asks.) so I decided to give it a second try. heck, for that price even if I cant stand it (again), I'll dump it on ebay and make an easy $300+ so either way I cant lose.

We'll see...

You can say that again. I just came from owning a 10D with a couple L lenses.

Digicams might not quite have the same quality pics as a DSLR setup, but then again, that DSLR setup can start to add up VERY severly. (trust me, I know....)

Congrats!

Soon you will have L lens fever. The Canon 24-85 was my first lens for the 10D. After trying out the 50 f/1.4 and 17-40L, I will never buy Canon's consumer lenses again. The L lenses are in a league of their own when it comes to optical sharpness, and so are the prices :(

Congrats my friend... I guess the D70 was just not for you. I've checked out a D70 here and the grip seems less substantial to hold versus the 300d. The 300d holds well in my hands, almost too well...:-) take care
Mike

Privet, Andy!
Congrats with a new camera!

1. As photorgaphy is your profession, I was surprised that you have only one... :-)
2. You must have followed Harry's example ... you often work (and walk) together
3. It must be Cannon, I think - I feel so after your Sting's post...

So, now you're a 'real' photographer, hanged with cameras, lenses, tripods, and so on... :-)

It'll be interesting to see your selfportrait with all this equipment somewhere ... for instance 58 st.

Congrats again,
Wish you perfect photos,
Yuri

I went with Andy to B&H where he fell victim to the dark side. Andy
said he just wanted to look, I knew better. Andy waited in line to
talk to a sales rep. Andy told the rep he was just looking, the
sale rep and I had a hard time to keep from laughing. Andy held the
toy for a few secs and his eyes got glassy and beads of sweat
started running down his face. Suddenly like magic a charge card
appeared in Andy's sweaty hand and he started buying stuff. A wino
in a bar would had lasted longer then Andy.
I love that description. I've had to spin the "I was just checking out the price on this lens, and the mouse malfunctioned and started clicking on things" story a few times myself... :)

Hi all,

I went with Andy to B&H where he fell victim to the dark side. Andy
said he just wanted to look, I knew better. Andy waited in line to
talk to a sales rep. Andy told the rep he was just looking, the

in a bar would had lasted longer then Andy.

At Starbucks Andy played with the toy for a while. He had a real
hard time figuring out how the battery went into the camera. When I
left him he was complaining about how heavy his backpack was with
all this stuff. Welcome to DSLR land Andy.

It is trendy right now to say something along the lines of "Cameras don't take good pictures, people do".....and you know what? That is very true, but the camera is a tool involved in that process. Ansel Adams could take good pictures with a Polaroid, but he can take better ones with a high end large format. I think once Andy gets used to the quirkiness of the Rebel, you are going to see his images go to the next level.

Good choice by the way...I think Phil and others have mentioned the "lowly" Rebel's images are as good or better than the higher priced DSLRs.

I'm sure that it must have been a hard move for you, but I do understand the temptation. The next camera I would buy would most likely be an F828, due to the money I've invested on accessories for my F707. I don't do too much work with low-light action so the f828 should suit my needs well and I don't have to go and Ebay all of my accessories!
